Default Police helicopter captures pursuit in South Australia

Just spotted this video, and thought I'd share it here. It's two days old, that happened on the 28th of June, 2012.

It's crazy, with a lot of near-misses, have a look for yourself,
Police will be alleging that the incident started at about 1.30pm on Thursday 28 June, where police were involved in a pursuit on the Riddoch Highway at Naracoorte, with a white Holden Commodore stolen from Mount Gambier earlier in the day. This pursuit was terminated due to the speed of the stolen car.

Police believe the stolen white Commodore was abandoned by the two men in Keith and a maroon Commodore was then stolen. The police helicopter started following this vehicle along the Dukes Highway.

The Commodore was abandoned at Mount Barker where the men stole a four-wheel drive from a man and drove towards Adelaide.

Police managed to spike the stolen car's tyres and but it continued driving with deflated front tyres until it was involved in a collision with another vehicle and trailer at the Tollgate at about 4.10pm. The 24-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested by police after a short foot chase through peak-hour traffic.

The second man then stole a VW sedan from a 22-year-old woman after she was forced from the driver's side into the passenger seat. The car then took off at speed along Cross Road in heavy traffic. The woman remained in the vehicle for about two minutes before being allowed to leave.

The VW crashed into a fence on Springbank Road at Panorama where the man tried to steal several other vehicles.

The 20-year-old man then ran through several backyards before being detained by police in the rear yard of a nearby house.

Bail was refused for both men. They are appearing in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

The 24-year-old man is charged with, breach of bail, two counts of illegal use of a motor vehicle and aggravated robbery.

The 20-year-old man is charged with three counts of illegal use, two counts of aggravated robbery, assault with intent to rob, unlawfully on premises and resisting police.

(Apologies if this is the incorrect spot for this type of discussion.)

Wow some of that is nuts!

Really though, why would the cops keep chasing , and yes using a chopper is chasing. They would surely have taken it a bit easier and tried to blend in safely if they
were not being chased, I couldnt care less what they have done, at that rate they could have killed someones family or ran into a school or something.

Seriously... are you for real? THE CONSTANT COP BASHING FROM YOU on this forum is like a broken record.

Are you so blind to see that these people carjacked someone and police where not chasing them? There wasnt a cop car to be seen at the start, but these morons then carjack someone and have no made it even more dangerous.

Yea let them go.. WHO CARES RIGHT!? Nevermind they were over taking cars are very high speed AND NO POLICE where chasing them, so they were already driving like absolute morons.

Oh think of the children... its all the cops fault.... they shouldnt chase criminals... how dare they!

was funny listening to the radio when it was all happening, truckies saying how they wont stop him incase they scratch the trailors.

really though it could have been stopped 2-3 times before it got near adelaide which is what they should have done.

he drove across the freeway bridge easy spot to holt the chase. again at the mount barker exit (where they stole the triton) and even at the bottom of the freeway.

to me it looks like they were to busy playing cat and mouse rather then setting a trap/road block.

Yes all this bulldung about not letting the cops start high speed chases for fear of someones gonna get hurt........that just gives the low life scum sucking bottom dweller car theives (or other crims) an out as they think they will get away, I think a conveniently placed 9mm behind the ear is the best thing,

This country has gone to the dogs with way too many blind do gooders, harden up Australia

they will get off fairly light.. either mummy didnt love them or daddy smacked them too much as kids.. or what ever the other excuses people are allowed to use to hide the fact that at the time of the event, they were being douchbags.
seen it far too many times.. mostly with drug addicts though..
they are handed excuses by psychiartists and society.. so why not exploit them for a leaner punishment.
plenty of people out there that have harder lives than most who can still manage to live life within the limits of the law and social acceptance.

Cops should be allowed to beat the living crap out of these lowlives. Hope they rot in prison for at least a couple of years.

Hope the cops gave him a good beating as part of the arrest.

Insane during the video where the suspect and police officer started sprinting on foot, and were inches away from getting struck by a moving vehicle.

good chance they wouldnt of known it was there.. those helicopters arent as close as the footage leads you to believe. and take into account the adrenaline they would have coursing through thiersystems.. looking over thier shoulders and in front of them as well as beside themselves.. Id say it would be more than likely they had no idea about the chopper.

You are wrong. People do drive like that, people that are not being chased by police. There was one last year on the Princess Highway near Hoppers Crossing Victoria where a male was deliberately driving down the wrong side of the road attempting to hit oncoming vehicles.

I personally have witnessed people on the road driving in such a manner. Whether they have a complete disregard for the law, fellow road users or they have had a blue with their partner or are merely high on drugs people do drive dangerously without any police variable being brought into play.

Yes police attempting to intercept vehicles may cause them to run and drive like this, police would then need to weight up the risks and if they out weigh the objective you would expect them to terminate the pursuit.

I personally believe that police should be able to pursue vehicles. Obviously under strict controls with firm guide lines. Remember police are not exempt from offences such as culpable driving etc.

The reason I asked how many pursuits you have been in as you speak as though you think you know what you are talking about where you clearly don't.

And Jim Goose, you say nothing was chasing them? Where does the police video footage come from? Park the chopper, and these guys would have settled down quick smart. They would have known it was there.

Keep defending the criminals... well done.
Thats what australia needs... more people defending those who break the law and expect to get away with it.

There was no way in the world these guys would "settle" down.... what a lot of rubbish. In Townsville this year we have had over 300 cars stolen in a short few months because bleeding hearts muppets like you made it impossible for the police to do their job. There is a "no pursuit" policy in effect here.

So what have these little darlings done? ON A REGULAR BASIS EVERY DAY IN TOWNSVILLE these idiots drive through the suburbs at 100kmh... why? Cause they know... NO PURSUITS...
They crash their stolens cars... Why? NO POLICE PURSUITS..
They drive deliberately on the wrong side of the road forcing cars to swerve.. why? NO POLICE PURSUITS
They do burnouts in front of the Police... why? NO POLICE PURSUITS..

Several stolen cars have been stolen as far away as Cairns or Mt Isa and driven at high speed in all directions to and from Townsville "just for a laugh".

On stolen 4WD was driven from cairns to townsville early one morning about a month ago, the car then drove through townsville AIMED AT CARS HEADON forcing them to swerve.... they then knocked over a cyclist.... and ran into another 4WD and rolled 3 times.... NO POLICE PURSUIT.

Yea mate...three cheers.

Coppers were a bit slow on the uptake when this happened, left a gap big enough to drive a truck through, SOP is to deny all means of ingress and egress if the vehicle is stolen and the crim is still behind the wheel, but I guess in the heat of the moment some things get forgotten

NO .. I haven't been in a chase. I have never put myself in such a position. But I tell ya something fella ... I support the police 100% in their endeavour to catch morons like these. I'm sick of going out having to pull people out wrecks and try to save them until we get them to hospital. These hyped up, drugged up, boozed up morons often give us merry hell as well, when we try to treat them and their victims.

I've also had the police protect my back as well ... so, hats of to the guys.

The cops did a real good job of keeping up, they werent far behind at all before they called off the chase, then one of the guys legged it and a cop followed really close behind, across the freeway.

Damn good effort on behalf of the boys in blue and amazing no one else was hurt, driving like maniacs.
