Default Falcon AU making hissing noise

I have a 99 Falcon AU, everytime i push the accelerator i get a hissing noise which seems to go when pushed harder and can only be heard from inside the car, at about the same time this started happening, the internal blowers started blowing out of the windscreen vents when they were set to blow from the front - this also happens when you accelerate.

has anyone got any ideas?

cheers

I got the same noise but when i back off. Ford said it was a vacume leak and that they had to take the dash out to fix it, been like that ever since...

even though the noise is by the pedal? - the car also seems to be lacking a bit in performance and its only just passed 100.000kms

anything i can fix myself - or do i take it to a dealer

National Capital Motors and Ford In Canberra are not very bright - all the work they've done on the car i've re-done myself lately

It could be the header bolts have lossend. I have heard of this happening on the AU 6. I don't know if you can do it yourself. I assume the bolts are easily accessable on a 6. I was suggest just maybe calling an exhaust place and tell them you have the hissing on acceleration and could the headers need tightening at the head?. Try Jeffro @ City Custom Exhaust in Braddon or Fred @ Tuggeranong Exhaust Centre in Tuggers.

Post the results. I would be curious to know the problem.

Sounds like a heater vacuum control problem, either a vacuum hose hase come off or a vacuum diaphram has sprung a leak

If the vents are blowing through the wrong places I'd say directional vacuum leak, either a vacuum hose has pulled off of the valve itself has failed. if you are confident, whip out the radio and console and have a look to see if you can see any hoses off.
Done any work in or around your dash lately? Speaker wires, radio, etc?. Easy to pull off the hoses in some cars.
Good luck. Don't have a coronary over it though.

Thumbs up

the blower button crumbled and had to replace that - about two weeks before it started going wrong, but i cant see that causing any real issues unless some of the button plastic got caught somewhere

Possibly. Hard to say. Just trying to visualize the button crumbling. I have no idea if this is common. Can't really add anything except as stated above if you want to have a crack at it yourself.

Good luck friend

Its a vacuum leak in the heater control system. Its not holding vacuum when you accelerate.
