BF XR6T with ZF auto. Will run 14's stock. Spend some cash on edit and exhaust and CAI later and run 12's. 30k will get one with highish kays though i would imagine

Others will say buy a BA with the BTR but....nah

XR6T should be able to pick one up for low $20-25K. $5K worth of mods should see mid 12s ~300rwkw. 6 speed auto is preferable over 4 speed auto, stronger and nicer to drive.

Mods needed will be:
CAPA Flash box ~$1000,
injectors ~$500,
intercooler ~$500
fuel pump ~$200
CAI with K&N filter ~$200
hiflow 3.5" or 4" cat ~$500
valve springs ~$500
fitting and tuning $???? (most of the rest of your money).

Prices are all approximate, some may be cheaper, some may be dearer, depending on brand of components used.

XR8s are a bit more expensive than XR6T so you'll have less money for mods. So I would scratch that off the list.

You are probably in the wrong forum to find out much info about LS1s - try www.ls1.com.au

BA MK1 XR8...
$24-28,000

Full Exhaust
Oil Pump Gears (Safety item to stop stock ones from failing, no power gain)
Underdrives
BPR/G&D Cold Air Intake
Custom tuned Edit
Diff Gears
If manual a Clutch upgrade.

Mods Cost more than a XR6T to crack the 12's. ,About the same as a LS1 i would expect...

But you get a soundtrack the other two couldn't dream of, not to mention the Buldge...

XR6T would be the one to get. Get the 6spd auto or manual. The BTR and T5 can't handle much torque. Btw, that's one fast honda civc you have there.

The BA xr8 would be good for 14s stock. But If you really want to make a car go fast for cheap then your best bet is the xr6t. They are faster stock and cheaper to mod. The xr8 will cost abit extra and cost abit more for the same results but you will have a nicer sounding and better looking beast. get auto if your really keen on drag times

XR6T for getting into 12s easy and cheap.
LS1 for getting into 12s, probably not quite as cheap but has the awesome note of a V8.
XR8 if you want the bulge, the Ford badge and the note. Just be prepared to spend a bit more than the other two (or so I am led to believe).

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those cars. With your budget I'd probably buy a VX SS (~$15-20k last I checked) or VY SV8/SS (early to mid $20ks) and either go exhaust, cam & heads and mafless tune; or get a CAPA blower kit (e.g. Powerdyne 5psi for 4k will get you around 290rwkw -- http://www.capa.com.au/kits_holden_ls1.htm)

But yeah check out ls1.com.au too. They know a shite-load more than me. =]

The XR6t gets my vote, it will be the cheapest to run a 12 and if you decide to up the ante down the track they are capable of huge power.

i'd say the LS1 would get you there cheaper than XR6T if you're prepared to go for a VX with its slightly older styling, but to me the current XR range is starting to look dated anyway .
LS1 would sound a ton better than an XR6T too

of course you could also spend 4 grand on a nice old falcon and $26 000 on drive line and engine, now that'd get you there...

Buy a XD-XE 351 and work the motor big time. Wont be hard to get 12`s seeing a nice XD will cost you 6-7-8k...then you got the rest of your money to go into it.
