I see Melbourne's petrol price has risen in line with Melbournian's sense of optimism. 40 cents per litre overnight. Having been sitting at $1.05 for pretty much the last couple of months, today its $1.45. Must just be coincidence.

I don't think that was the gov's idea when they said spend to kick start the economy

Data valid as at 23:59 GMT October 17th, 2020.
Not posted yesterday because of Bathurst.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting except for the Victorian 14 day moving averages.

12 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR drop to 3.301% while active cases drop to 1,381. NSW recorded 5 cases, WA & SA 2 cases each with the balance in Victoria.

The Victorian State 14 day moving average is down to 9.5 with metro falling to 7.5 (15 unknown) and regional at 0.5 with no unknown cases (including today). Victoria reported 2 new cases for the last 24 hours (ended 11:00 18/10).

3 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.328% and active cases rise to 44.

The UK had a slightly higher 16,171 new cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore the CMR but even using their method they recorded 150 deaths.

Just over 71.5k new cases in the USA yesterday and 928 deaths sees CMR drop to 2.698% and active cases drop to 32.2% with the raw numbers falling but still over 2.6M. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
The USA completes 124M, India 93M, Russia 53M & Venezuela 2M tests;
Europe recorded a new daily case high of 153,184 after the previous high was amended slightly;

Bosnia (716)
Malaysia (869)
Slovenia (898)
UAE (1,538)
Armenia (1,540)
Austria (1,747)
Hungary (1,791)

Ukraine (6,410)
Netherlands (8,114)
Poland (9,622)
Italy (10,925)
Argentina (26,107) and
France (32,427)
all recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

Hi mate, you may have explained this, or maybe I’m simple, but you say 8 cases, but what you have there adds up to 10. What am I missing?

Vitamins, and healthy food.

The UK had a higher 18,803 new cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore the CMR but even using their method they recorded 80 deaths.

Just over 55k new cases in the USA yesterday and 492 deaths sees CMR drop to 2.676% and active cases rise to 32.3% with the raw numbers rising and now over 2.7M. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Spain and Argentina pass 1M cases;

The USA completes 126M,
India 95M, Russia 54M, UK 29M, Spain 15M, Belgium & Poland 4M tests;

Albania (295)
Bulgaria (1,024) and

Timing differences. I get most of my data from a set that looks at 24 hour periods that end at midnight GMT which is where the AU 'daily' total comes from. The State based data comes from a local source that uses a different time frame so there are nearly always differences in the total.

the day I believe 'main stream media' (MSM) is the day I think SkyNews is more left than the ABC, is the day I believe Donald Trump is a sane individual, is the day I believe Elvis is alive and working in a 7/11. The scarfy /fishing thing i had since the start got outlawed a couple of weeks ago. It was tight on my face and very effective, didnt hurt ears, reusable and unloseable.

However, thanks to some idiot in charge, im rocking the wuhan special that is so loose and poor fitting its a joke.

Is this 'covidnormal'?

What is 'covidnormal'?
What is 'covidsafe'?

Since the peak on the 16th of 413k, it has been 387k, 340k and 330k the 3 days since. Putting that in perspective, they are all well above the 90th percentile of 303k and the 387k on the 17th is the 3rd highest daily number so far. The weekend numbers tend to be a bit flattering looking at the graph but Monday was lower than expected.

Will be interesting to see what the numbers for Tuesday bring.

Georgia (the country, not the State) makes an interesting study. They went through all of the early pandemic from March until June averaging only 8 cases per day with a peak of 42 in mid April. From then until mid July that average dropped to 3 cases per day with a peak of 9 and you'd have said they pretty much had it under control.

Cases started to climb from about 18th July with an average of 12/day through to the end of July and then dropped to 10/day through August before climbing to 39/day in early September and since then it has rocketed to be 225/day for the balance of September and 656/day thus far in October, with their highest figure of 1,192 two days ago and their second highest yesterday.

We (Costa Rica) was also slow out of the blocks... But since September, numbers risen dramatically.
Yesterday (Tuesday) daily new cases were 847... And the first day since September that it was under 1000.
Also averaging 15.7 deaths per day since September (total deaths are 1222)
Or 19 deaths per 100,000...
Yet the entire country has re-opened.... Flights from all States in the US, bars, restaurants, casinos, sports, beaches are all open now!
They are definitely putting the economy ahead of Covid risk (any wonder with un-employment at 30 odd % and high tourist season beginning in December)
