Default Fuel Ratios vs Ignition..

Guys I just wanted to know ..that if you have good air fuel ratios, can you get more power by adjusting ingnition timing?

Not really as adjusting the timing affects where it sparks. You may not end up with the correct mixtures @ the time it fires which may end up being lean or rich. You have to have to add more fuel or take away fuel when required.

It does work in small amounts but not in large amounts.

It depends whether the timing is close to ideal or not. If the engine is modified, then altering ignition timing will usually improve things.

If my timing is retarded by 8 -10 degrees than it should is it losing power?

If it's 10deg retarded from it's ideal spot, yes.

There are a few sensors which take 6 -10 degrees out of the ignition timing on the AU

You'd only get more power if you weren't running MBT (Maximum Brake Torque) timing. If you are running right on MBT timing then either advancing or retarding the spark will lose you power.

Spark and air/fuel ratios are a bit of a balancing act, particulary in engines that are "on the edge". If your engine is detonation limited, ie if your power is still increasing as you advance the spark and you get detonation before you reach MBT. Then richening the air/fuel ratios gives you some detonation relief and you can then advance the spark closer to MBT and get more power, however like most things there is a limit and making it too rich will lose you more power than you gain by from the spark advance.

I hope this makes sense.
