Default Car Stuff To See & Do In Melbourne

The family and I will be holidaying in Melbourne late next month (18-25 Nov) and I was wondering what Ford/car related stuff there is to do.
ie whether FPV will let us in for a look around or whether they have merchandising stuff to buy there, V8SC workshops or even the Ford factory if theyre in melb.
Im already planning to go to the Ford musuem for a look, I have done the HSV factory tour last time I was there - even being on the blue team it was really worth checking out.

or any stuff in general worth checking out...

You can go to the FPR headquarters in camberfield i think they do tours around the place and you can buy merchandise etc there aswell. , its right near FPV and Fords factories as well, theres also the Ford Discovery centre in geelong

Go for a lap or two on the F1 grand prix track. You get a real feel of what its like on race day. The best part is its doesn't cost a cent

Some may think the Ford Discovery Centre is funded by Ford, this is a private run business they need to charge something to keep the place open..

http://www.foxcollection.org.au/open...and_tours.html

Just looking at website it is only open for 4 hours every Tuesday from February to November, 10am to 2pm. He has an ENZO on display...over 50 cars apparently...not bad value I reckon for $10......might have to got there myself

Go check out all the Mad Max filming locations; they're around the Geelong area I think.

Head down to Cheltenham, check out the Shannons auctions showroom ... normally around 30 vehicles in there, you should find some old Fords etc.

Doesn't cost anything.

The V8 Supercars are racing at Sandown 19th-21st Nov. Its a 40 minute train ride out of the city centre so that's where you'll find all the teams that weekend. The Friday is usually a cheaper day out without the crowds if you can handle not seeing them race, although other classes do race.
http://sandown.v8supercars.com.au/ho...9/default.aspx

Calder Park Raceway has a Friday night street meet which is good and sometimes the same on a Saturday Arvo.
http://www.calderpark.com.au/

Also on Nov 21 is a Charity Event which has a classic car display, its about 45 min drive from the CBD, I'm taking the XY and my mates are bringing HK Monaros and a VG Pacer.
http://www.alzheimers.org.au/upload/...oster-2010.pdf
Also if you check the "Events" Section for Victoria on the Forum you'll see other stuff coming up too.
Cheers, Dave

Really, they seem quite reasonable to me.

Quote:
Admission Prices

Adults $8.00
Children (4-17 years) $4.00
Concessions $6.00
Family (2A + 4C) $20.00
Extra child with family +$1.00
Groups (15 or more) $5.50
School Groups (per student)$5.00
You can get a family in for $20, so not sure on why it would be a shock.

Being a serious buyer Id ahve to take them all for a test drive first

I think I'll email Ford & FPR to see what they have on offer.

If you're down for the weekend... maybe go and check out Calder Park - street drags usually on Friday nights...

Might not be happening for much longer... as the place has deteriorated...

But at least you'll be able to say you've been there and done that...

For something a bit different, head down to Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula and take the missus and kids to the Drive In. Don't know if there's any left in NZ but only about three in Victoria. Also there's a good little car museum up at Main Ridge which is only about 10 minutes out of Dromana - lots of odd ball and interesting stuff there (although not much in the way of Fords)

I had the pleasure of attending a private function at the Lindsay Fox museum in 2000. What a night and what a collection of cars, amazing, well worth the look.
