Aftermarket double din head unit

you wouldnt need a double din fascia and you can still use the volume control under the steering wheel..

has anyone seen these advertised elsewhere, its a bit pricey??

Just be warned that if you have an LT, the plug won't fit. It's a different size, and there are no adaptors for it. So you will need to cut and re-solder the wires...

Don't do it. Not worth it. Save the money and get a proper one. There's a few threads on this forum about these units and the general consensus is that they're c**p

OK then.....I'm not really up with the head units so can I ask, what is there available that can just "plug-in" like this one? or where can i look for one? I don't like the idea of having to buy a face to fill in the gaps around the unit. in my opinon the after martket faces all look cheap.

You're not going to find a 'plug-in' one as such. They don't even make harness adaptors for the LT stereo. So if you replace anything stereo wise you need to cut the harness off and re-solder the wires.

if i disconnect the original head unit and reattach it will it ask me for a code? there is no code listed in my manual or anything..

Yeah it will. Also happens if you disconnect the battery for more than 5 minutes or so. Call your dealership and they'll be able to give you the stereo code.

Alternatively you could look in the glove box... There is usually a white sticker on the side with a serial number and barcode on it - and a 4 digit code at the end. Those 4 digits will be the code for your radio.

Checked there and i dont have a sticker in the glove box..
When did you realise there was a sticker there? before or after your first service? Maybe they stick it on after a service..

I had the sticker there since i bought it from the dealer. Anyway, if its not there, then its not there. I just thought it would be one of those things that every focus had. But it was a big relief when i tried the code and it worked!

Which fascias does everyone recommend when doing a head unit change? From experience which looks the best?

Never seen that second one before. Looks like it might fit in a bit more with the silver surrounds around the stereo.
I've got the same as the first one, which acts as a double DIN or a single DIN with a pocket. Here's a pic:

Personally I reckon it looks good, but every has their own opinion.

Yeah mate fits in nice and tight. The fascia itself has four clips on it, one in each corner. Then the pocket has a clip on either side, and then you mount the stereo bracket on the other pocket. Or in your case the stereo bracket would take up both spots. The stereo brackets have little tabs that you bend around the fascia that prevent it from moving. No modification needed. The main modification is cutting the stereo fascia and re-soldering the wires!!!

Cutting the stereo fascia? what do ya mean?

Isnt there an extension for the wiring you can get? Im probably better off getting the extension wire and soldering the new head unit on to that, that way ill be able to put the stock one on pretty easily..

Sorry the stereo adaptor. And if you have an LT there is not adaptor available. They've got one for the Sony head unit in the XR5, but not one for the stock Ford stereo. Annoying I know. So the only option unfortunately is to cut off the stereo adaptor and re-solder the wires. Then if you want to take your new head unit out and put it back to stock, you have to recut the wires and re-solder the new connections on. :(

Nah they're all the wrong one. The large square-ish ones that you see are the ones for the Sony head unit out of the XR5. I'll take a photo of the one that comes out of the LT soon and post it up here so you can see it.

i went to autobarn yesterday and they suggested instead of cutting the plug just bridge it (make a slit in the original cable, push the insulation to one side and connect the cable directly to the original, then solder) i think ill be going down this path.

Could do that, but it would be a hell of a lot easier to cut the wires. You would have one hell of a time stripping back the wires on the back of this plug. They are packed in there nice and tight, and there really isn't enough room to do that sort of thing in the dash.
My suggestion: Cut the wires off, but leave enough length on the plug to re-solder if you decide to re-connect the old stereo.

The colour codes on the left is from the Pioneer headunit and the colours on the right is the wires from the ford:

Red to Yellow/Green - Accessories
Blue/White - Blue - Remote wire
Yellow - Orange/Black - +12V power
Black - Green/Black - Ground

Speakers:
Purple/Black - Grey - Rear right -ve
Purple - White - Rear right +ve
White - Black/White - Front left +ve
White/Black - Grey/Black - Front left -ve
Green/Black - Grey/White - Rear left -ve
Green - Purple/White - Rear left +ve
Grey - Red/White - Front right +ve
Grey/Black - Red/Grey - Front right -ve

Bear in mind that the colours on the left are for the Pioneer adaptor, but I believe they are standard colours on most head units nowadays. I've added an extra column to show what each of the other wires does. There are a few wires in the Ford adaptor that don't actually do anything. Just need those four (power, ground, accessories and remote wire).
With my remote wire, however, it didn't work, so if you're hooking up an amp and when you switch the head unit on, if the amp doesn't power on, it may be that the remote wire isn't working. I just de-soldered it and connected it to the accessories wire instead and it worked shmick as!

they have what appears to be an adaptor for the LT radio. The adaptor itself, which wouldn't fit, and looks bizarre, considering they've got the plug connected straight to the aftermarket wires is the one for the Ford Fiesta (CT20FD06). I think the one you guys would need would be the one for the Ford Fusion (CT20FD04). Have a look. Hopefully a solution has been found!!

EDIT - 100% guarantee you its the one for the Ford Fusion. See here for an ebay link, cheap as chips.
