Default Car bursts into flames after street race

An illegal street race involving two cars on the M7 motorway in the western Sydney suburb of Quakers Hill last night resulted in a serious crash, with one car in flames and two men hospitalised, police say.

About 9.30pm police and emergency services were called to the accident on the major road 1km west of Sunnyholt Road exit, where a Ford XR6 Turbo ute and a Ford XR6 Turbo sedan had smashed while racing east bound.

Both cars hit a guard rail, a solid electronic overhead sign pole and an electrical power box.

The collision caused the sedan to flip and catch on fire, police said.

Police extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of Fire Brigade officers.

The 21-year-old Baulkham Hills driver of the sedan and his 22-year-old male passenger from Glenhaven were taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries and are in a stable condition.

The driver of the ute, a 22-year-old P2 provisional licence holder from Maroota, was uninjured in the accident.

Inspector Adel Atalla, from Quakers Hill police, said it was "absolutely incredible" the men had escaped with only minor injuries.

There had been few other vehicles on the road when the street race took place, he said.

The M7 was not a known hot spot for street racing, he said.

Both drivers will be charged with street racing, drive in a manner dangerous and traffic offences and will have their licenses suspended.

They will appear at Blacktown Local Court on a later date.

Anyone who witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken to police are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations into the collision are continuing.
Apparently this was on the way home from racing at Wicked Wednesday.
Once again these muppetts are ruining the chances of keeping facilities like WW open

I was just about to post this myself, the sedan looked alot like a car on this forum. Pretty sure is was a BA/BF F6, it was yellow with black rims.

P.S. The F6 was on it's roof.

All the campaigning against the P-Plate laws has just been ruined, by this P-Plater driving a Turbo and crashing it...

Bit harsh, but true. Unless there was a massive patch of oil, both hit it while cruising past and spun into each other then they might have a chance.

Talk about a generic, stereotypical accident. Pretty disappointing really. :togo:

What is this Judge Dredd? If it was any other incident they article would be full of 'alledged activity'
If it was a murder case and the journo wrote it out in the same manner would it be acceptable? He'd be lucky to keep his job let alone anything else.

So now two flash cars crash your now convicted on the spot for street racing? what kind of society have we become.

Bit of difference to the two crimes. But for the sake of this argument if the murderer was found at the scene with the knife in his hand and blood all over him then yes it would be acceptable.

Seriously how can you defend the actions of these two and what other explanation can be offered?

There is always peanuts that will support this sort of activity....so no point arguing about it I guess, just glad no innocent people got hurt.

The only problem is that these numb nuts bring the heat onto everyone else, making genuine performance car owners look bad in the general public eye. So the only people that support there idiots will be the same idiots, so if you get on here supporting dumd Sh%@s like these two, you are not doing car enthusiasts any favours, and I hope I do not get lumped into the same pile as the brainless heroes that have no consideration for other road users or even their mates or family in the car with them who's life they are risking.

Yet another group of idiots who give everyone else a bad name. Especially us P platers.

Raises the question too, what was a P plater doing driving a Turbo? Unless of course they got their Ps before the law.

Simple fact to the matter is, they got what was coming to them.

It's a credit to the media for reporting this as a 'street racing' incident and didn't refer to it as being 'drag racing'.

Hopefully this will be a lesson to others, there's a group of very lucky guys after that wreck.. i'm amazed the people in the F6 were relatively unhurt.

The sad thing is, they'll probably get a nice insurance payout and go buy/build themselves a newer/faster car and continue to drive like turkeys

I doubt they will, If the insurance company pays them it will be a huge mistake.

Engaging a vehicle in illegal activities is a exlcusion under insurance policies....

Must have been a small fire... If the sedan was on fire? There is very little fire damage ??

Are you sure? ...what about failing to give way or running a red light....both illegal activities, both covered by insurane.

The exception I can think of is DUI is not covered by insurance.
