I don't know about AU's, but you can try this procedure from the EL's....

To force-clear the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) calibration data:
* Ignition on (engine not running)
* Vehicle stationary
* Transmission mode switch 'Normal'
* Throttle 100%
* Transmission mode switch 'Economy'
* Throttle 0%

To re-calibrate the ECU TPS data:
* Engine warmed up
* Idle engine in 'D' with aircon off for 60 seconds (sets closed throttle data)
* Engine off but leave ignition on
* Hold accelerator to floor for 60 seconds (sets WOT data)

Other than that, the ECU should eventually re-learn the idle settings with loads applied (aircon and power steering) all by itself.

I just let it relearn itself. Wont run real nice for 100 or so KM, but after that it will be all good.

One of the ways to reset the ECU is to disconnect the battery, so to answer your question; No

It will learn to refine its base settings, idle will improve.

I think the OP meant re setting the ecu to what it was before he disconnected the battery.

Yeah thats what I said. Put up with the weird gear changes, and the odd idling for 100km and it will be fine.

Meh ... after putting the new battery in ... go to your favourite bit of road ... and DRIVE. It will relearn from word go. So give it a decent drive ... doesn't take long to bring up 100km (would be best to do it in the initial drive though if you can).

Thanks for the replys.
I have a S1 XR6 and have disconected/changed the battery many times, but it always ran the same after, no rough running.
It seemed strange to me when my S3 forte wagon started to run rough after the battery was changed and thats why I thought I needed to reset the ECU, so I will let it relearn and see how it goes.
