Gidday all. Just a question to XR5 Turbo owners. How far can you get on a tank of petrol. A friend has one and gets roughly 650km's a tank on the highway. His brother has a Mondeo turbo and he claims he can get over 1000km's per tank on the highway. I know there is a little difference in the tank size approx 10L. Just after some feedback from other owners if possible please.

Mondeo gets an almost 80 litre tank, along with having a much taller 6th gear.
Focus has a 55 litre tank and shorter 6th gear. The two aren't able to be directly compared, but it's easy enough to say that the Mondeo is tuned for highway performance and the Focus isn't.

I do a mixture of Highway/ City driving but only short distances everyday. My average consumption for my mondeo xr5 is 10.5 litres per 100 kms.

Mixed driving I get 10.3 at the moment in the Focus.

10.2 mixed aswell, ive seen 8.3 on the highway. Mine is tuned though

11.2 in my focus. Running Same tune as DJ but i have serious traffic and a heavy right foot
 Drove the old man's Mondy XR5 to wodonga and back. No way in hell can you get 1000kms on the highway in that thing. 75 litre tank will get you just over 800kms though.

I'm averaging 9.4 in my XR5 at the moment, I have an 80km a day round trip from Lara to Laverton so it's all highway at 100kmh. As soon as I hit town and get the stop start stuff it goes up to about 10.5.
I used to average 8.7 with only a couple of mods, but I've recently had A LOT of gear installed and am now running a higher tune Used to get about 590-600km out of a tank, now reduced to about 560-570 |

Mine was more economical running Race than when it was on stock tune. Best I got was 7.9, average was 10.9.

Currently on 10.5 which is mixed driving.
PB was 9.6 on a motorway run to Canberra and back, but the car was still running in as well. Just under 3900km's o nthe clock. Dan

My old XR5's best was 12.5L/100 and was sitting on 19.4L/100 before I traded it in.
New one is currently on 12.5L/100 and hopefully that will come down a bit before I put the mods back on

Reviving a slightly dated thread, bought an MB mondy xr5 the other week in Adelaide and drove it back to Melb in the one day, no luggage, 2 adults. Did 709km and when we got home still had 1/4 of a tank left.
There was also some spirited driving amongst the highway driving too though as I was keen to see how well it performed. Had I needed to keep going I think it could have just reached 1000km, more than likely if it were just me for the whole trip. |

i doubt it. i drove from melbourne to wollongong on cruise control most of the way and got just shy of 900km. that's around 8.4l/100 ave for the whole trip.

might be possable MB, i can almost make it to & from home to Adelaide on a tank each way, about 700ks.
i know when going north to Syd the fuel usage is more on the way up. the difference is the drive to Adelaide is a fairly flat run where heading to Sydney it's more of an uphill run.

Highway I did 7.8L/100k on the weekend. Usually about 10L/100k if just around town.

If your getting less then 10L/100 your doing it wrong
