Default Mega Model Collection

I drove to Canberra over the weekend for a family get together. First really good drive in the G6ET. The weather was all over the shop. Rain one minute, sunny-ish the next, big winds. I think the AU would've gotten blown around a bit but the FG was solid as. It's built for eating up the kms in comfort.

I got 9.5 to 10L/100kms there and back. Happy with that, especially the strong head wind coming back. I noticed, on cruise, not one hill made it need to kick back to 5th, but it would kick down going down the other side to stop it overspeeding. Love that ZF6 gearbox.

My brother-in-law had told me about his model collection but that still didn't prepare me.

These photos are the spare room, starting at the doorway and panning around to the left.

These are in the living room.

And the shed.

He's running out of room in the house so the shed is getting converted .ie. man's shed : The Model collection, TV, pool table if theres room....

Some may look like doubles, but they have slightly different liveries depending on the year model .eg. the new livery each year for HRT or FPR. He's not sure how many there are. Started making a database but it looks like a big job. :togo: :

He got multiple signatures from Sebastion Loeb when at previous NZ, AUS and GB rallies. Lot of other signed stuff too.

That.
Is.
Mental!

Ive got a collection myself but nothing like that, Id be divorced if I allocated that much $$$ into my models.

Does he own a hobby store or something? Ive got a theory that some people get these models for bargains, the margins on them are massive but there would be high costs in setting up the making of them.

That is impressive.

I'm gonna take a guess here, he's your brother in law because you married his sister. I couldn't see too many women putting up with something like that. If he has got himself an understanding woman, bless her heart.

Amazing collection, how does he keep the dust off. Even though they're behind glass, I'm guessing some dust would still get in.

Rough count, 1800 models. Take a punt at an average price of $50 each = close enough to $100k.

Nope, just collected one (or several) at a time. Hits up the model shops anywhere he goes I think.

He married my sister. Haha, yeah, she must be very patient, although I believe the shed properly set up to display everything together is the plan.

Not sure about keeping it all clean. I was just gobsmacked, and asking "oh, is that a Mercedes Sauber? Is that Makkinen's Lancer? Is that.....? etc....." Didn't think of the dust question.

There is mega money sitting there. My uncle has some models and they can be anywhere from $20 - $200

Very impressive collection

He even has triples of the same model in some cases ie Dick Johnsons No 17 XE Greenstuff car.

As mentioned earlier - very close to 6 figures (if not more) pumped into his hobby

^^^^ He doesn't have any money left over for beer. A fantastic collection and good on him for keeping them in such good nick. A tough job to flog them off if ever the need though. A person with that sort of collection doesn't just hit up all the hobby stores, surely he knows and is on the top of every model company's list for the first batch of anything. He may have found some of his collection at different stores and have searched every small town toy/hobby shop to find some discontinued models. Either way there would be some there with extrordinary find stories. Hope he gets a good alarm system for the shed.

Nissan Pulsar AWD 2.0L Turbo (don't know what model) and a normal Pulsar as the daily. His main passion is rally cars. I think that's why there a so many Subaru caps and rally car models and he's gotten Sebastian Loeb's signature several times and named his son Sebastian. :eclipsee_

He's planning to turn it into a sleeper. The wing is going, as is the scoop once he gets a front mount intercooler.

Photos were taken the morning after. As you can see from the bottles, we were having a party and I spent some time checking out the collection. :

Lordy, that's a lot of model cars.

Such a shame they're all in cabinets, though. I'd have them slung in plastic boxes under my bed so that I could spread them all over the carpet of a Sunday morning and go "vroom vroom"... ;)

Sounds about right.

When I arrived I took all the friends/relatives who hadn't seen or known about my car for a spin (it took a few trips). They'd never heard of a G6ETurbo and were stunned at how hard it goes and the luxury interior and the understated good-looking exterior.

My bro-in-law with the model collection and the Nissan was particularly impressed. Said it has much more power vs. weight and faster than the hot Pulsar.

I didn't get to find out for myself because the party had started : and the Pulsar was blocked in by other cars.
