I got my tint done today in sungard endurance in adelaide, it's there top of the range tint, cost $310 for the car with lifetime warranty which covers anything, and it was a tad darker than legal

all up was a top job and i've very happy with it so far

as an ex independant tint shop owner of nine years , from my experiences in order of manufacturers i would rate

1 - 3M Scotchtint
2 - solargard
4 - johnstons
3 - martin energy products
5+ the rest come somewhere along behind

i have some reservations about the longterm (2 years + ) quality / durability of sungard and madico/solartint films. especially in reference to colour fading/ changeing and for sungard , distortion in the adhesive that makes the windows look blury.

You can legally go as dark as you like on the rear window ... as the ute is a commercial vehicle.

I have 5% tint on the back window (in Summer you need it ... your neck gets burnt something shocking).

I went darker on the side windows though ... but you are only allowed legally to go to 35% VLT on the sides.

I had Solace do mine ... and I was impressed with it.
Same price you were quoted as well.

in case you are wondering where "solace" comes in my list of favorites , "solace" and "tint-a-car" and "ming" are all franchises run by the "martin energy products" company or "auto 1 " and just to confuse the issue further the boxs the film comes in will probably be marked as "llumar" and the product is made in the usa by a company named "cautalds".

so all of these names come back to one supplier ,

a site you might get some more views / info from http://www.tintdude.com/
it is a american based forum but as most of the tints available in australia come from america the products will be simillar.
there are more and more korean tint films being used here now but as for the quality.....????????

depends what state you live in weather its legal to go darker on back window but you will normally not be bothered unless you do something silly, ( in qld it is legal to have a canopy with no windows but you are only suposed to use T35 tint.???)

also if the tint is for your BF ute in your sig then you should consider a non metalic tint such as 3M CS Black ( a carbon based film with no dyes or metal ) so as not to have radio interferance problems.

no worries mate.

i found when i had the business that very few people have any real understanding of the products and companies and i think that some of the franchises like to try and keep it that way by not giving customers any real usefull info.

unless you work in the industry it can be hard to get info that is not just biased marketing advertising.

another site to have a look at is http://www.wfaanz.org.au/

it is the sit of the australian /nz window tint association.

On the front guard ... as it's an AU.
The B-series had them on the glass. Although as far as I know ... it was only AM reception that was affected by some tint.

metal tint can make AM reception fuzzy and cuts down the distance from transmitter that you can pick up FM on cars with the aerial on the glass.

more than likely but depends on who the dealer is.

Ford , or any other car company dont get involved in after-market products like tint, rustproof, etc. so its up to the dealer who they use to supply these services if they want to offer them.

it seems to be part of the motor one system to monopolise/dominate the dealer aftermarket product sales. hence the different franchises and even different named products comeing from the same box from the same franchise depending on who it is sold to.
quite often the dealerships will tender for a tinter etc and $$$ count, several dealers i knew would not pay more then $150 to have a car tinted and then sell it on for $495- $695. quality is often not taken into account so long as there are nice shiney brouchures and a warrenty that sounds impressive when the aftermarket sales girl takles you.
so for $150 you are not going to get the best product available, no matter how good they make it sound.

depends on what state you are in but for instance in qld you will often find tint-a-car and ming both operating out of the same shop, ming for the dealerships and tint-a-car for the public.

there are however some car dealers who do care about their customers and what they sell and who are willing to use smaller tint shops etc.

some dealerships are employing their own tinters and do the job in house useing whatever film they choose , some good ,some not so good.

before i bought tint or any other aftermarket products from a dealer i would be doing a lot of research as to who is really supplying it. but mostly they wont tell you because then you will go straight to the supplier and get it cheaper.

i have probably just made a few enemies now :evil3: letting out trade secrets.

you would be suprised how many customers came to my shop convinced that their car had geniune factory toyota, ford , holden , whatever, tint . it had to be genuine because the dealer sold it. :togo:

i meant the list to read as per the wording, must have put the numbers in the wrong spots.
there is probably not much between those 2 options anyway.

thanks for pointing the mistake out.

sorry ,,, but i cant help you there. i know of "the tint professor" but dont know much about them. i think they are a melbourne chain of shops but you would need to talk to some locals from that area to find out what they are like.

i am half way up the QLD coast so a long way from me.
