Default Tell me about the AU Fairlane.

I've come across a very nice 2002 VCT Auto example for about $13k. In what I believe is meteorite grey w/ Black leather interior, and so many features. Completely stock.

Is this car over priced? Apart from the luxuries and regal looks, how does it compare in terms of driveability to say a BA XR6, which are going for approx. $15-17k?

Just give me some pros and cons, what to consider and what I need to look out for?

Personally I'd say overpriced. Depends on kays, owners etc. If its a low k owner drove to churh deal then do it. Above 150k on the odo would be too much for that money though. Drivability wise I was in the same boat as you a while back and bought the au lane over the ba. More comfy features, bit less get up an go (she got a fat *** to haul round), oodles more room an a big back seat for sleeping eating or any other wholesome activity you enjoy.
Buy the lane, pimp about in it. Things to check are rust in boot hinges or along rubber lining on roof, otherwuse your getting a reliable ol girl with some class.

they are great... but i'm a little biased...
had mine 5 years with no real dramas at all...
great on long cruises.. handle like a boat though..
brake upgrade on series 1's a good idea..

here's mine...

by changing a few things on them, they can look quite good..

cheers

Default Au series 1

Hey mate,

I would say extremly over priced. Mine is a 99 (series 1) but it only had 120K on it, black leather, spotless inside and out, and its an 8 for $7700.

I really should have waited and tried to get a series 2, but i couldnt let it go.

Yeah when i was looking they all seemed very over priced, I mean they were never popular and the only thing they offer over the falcon is the wheel base. So I dont know where it comes from.

In saying that I never bargained with anyone so I dont know if it was just an advertised price.

Well i've got a 'lane and my brother has an xr6 HP (also relevent to XR8s) and although closely related its like comparing a CEO to a child with ADD.
One is bit posh and is an aquired taste that others WILL envy the other is a bit mental and yells at you alot and makes life uncomfortable (stiff susp.) but at the end of the day you still have to love

i'd take a Lane everytime

Thats not too much K's for an early AU .... they are getting near 10 years olf and will run near for ever. As long as the interior leather is good which is a costly fix .... some of these AU fairlanes are still running around as taxis with 3-4 times the amount of K's. Prefer them over the BA's which dont have enough of a difference in looks over the short wheel bases.

I'm the same mate.. prefer these over the BA's any day... They look way different to the lower models..

i agree about the k's. mine has 340,000! i have qwned it for 3 years and apart from a drama with the gearbox i havent had a problem.

KRISTO, did yours come with the wood grain around the center buttons, above the radio? and did you put the bonnet emblem on the bonnet? if so did you have to fill the hole from the old one?

nah it didn't come with the woodgrain...
i bought that piece from ford...

the bonnet emblem fitted perfectly over the hole... can't even tell that it had one...

gonna miss this thing but it'll be gone by end of next week... :

When Fairlanes looked like Fairlanes.Very Lincoln USA and look great lowered on big rims.
Au2/3 in our workshop experience are the least troublesome of any Falcon/Fairlane.
Cabbies almost cry when they recall how reliable their AU's were.

Climate dash controls can fail on Fairlanes but is a relatively inexpensive fix.
If you could find a Tickford TL...........................

Not the climate controls failing more the screen losing numbers. It's an easy fix. Few threads on here bout it! It's just a wire loom coming unstuck
