Default Am I crazy to buy 340 Km AUII?

Hi folks. Not sure if you're the right bunch to ask this, since you're card-carrying AU devotees, but... I've just looked at an AUII traytop on dedicated gas. It ticks all my boxes, but has done 340K. It drives pretty well actually. Had a new head at 100, and a s/h trans at some stage, plus a couple of radiators. The ask is $6k. I thought if I could get it for $5k, put another 100K on it (3-4 yrs) I could just write it off. OTOH if it's going to keep breaking... Am I better off spending twice the money for half the kays?

Thanks
Lofty

340 thousand? That's barely run in!

I reckon six grand might be a bit steep though.

Mate i think 6k is a bit high for those clicks, just bought my au2 egas a few months back for 5 with 190 on it, it had a new convertor, brakes, g'box all done in the last 5000.. its probably worth what he is asking but its a buyers market at the moment, so you should be able to get a pretty good deal..

personally i'd take time to give it a good going through to see if anything is amiss.. also ask what economy he is getting as i'm not getting much more than 330 for 75 litres at the moment

AU11 trayback on gas even with those Ks is not to bad most of the Egas Taxis are good for 500k + . a Mates got 2 wagons with 300+ on them and still go fine if you can get a few $$ off and it"s what you want go for it. you would be unlucky not to get at least another 100k out of it

Im on 280 000, not a hiccup since Ive had it (150 000). I know of a few wayyyy over the other side of 500 000, and they dont really have any problems.

put in an offer of 4k. Its cheeky, and you can always up the offer, but never lower the offer.

I would look for one with much lower k's.
I try and make a point of never buying anything with more than 150k, and preferably less than 100k.

Once over 150k-200k, they start to feel quite loose IMO. Clunks, squeaks, rattles, etc, they just don't feel tight, and they'r not, because everything is showing a lot of wear.

For the record, I just sold an AU2 5spd XLS ute with just under 150k for $8000, so keep looking, you'll find one with low enough k's for the right money.

Regional SA. Smaller market here I guess. There seem to be utes on gas, or traytops, but gas trays are not coming up, esp with low Ks. That's ok, I'm not in a rush. Actually I'm leaning away from Egas, towards DF.

I was looking at the govt auction site, but their stuff is later and out of my budget. Also, after reading about some of the issues various Falcons can have (eg BAs), I decided I'd never buy one I hadn't driven.
