ok, i've picked myself up off the floor....
there is no way an efi 6 will ever sound like an old school clevo.. even dropping the pipes will make it sound like a loud efi 6......

you could always get a car that has a 351 in it....

a big cam is about as good as it will get. Something like a wade 1512a would give you a fairly lumpy idle, especially with a stock ecu. An i6 is never gunna sound as good as a tough V8 though.

big cam, large jetted holley, and some backyard exhaust system made out of stainless steel. I think i fooled many with a 265 charger years back, also my friends 186 HR wagon had a nice tick over as well

1521a is about $400 and you can install it yourself

It will give you more than a lumpy idle. Without a chip, expect to use about 20L of fuel per 100k's

ok ok, on a serious note, to get a lumpyish V8ish rumble..
3>1 headers into a twin 2.5in exhaust system will give it a V8ish sound (from experience) as in 3-1 and 3-1 set up and a 2.5in exhaust off with 1 muffler on each each..
and Its Performance has a monster cam, you have to die grind the head so the lobes dont hit the deck of the head on rotation.. thats lumpy...

I was once fooled by an EH that I thought had some sort of V8 at idle it was so lumpy, but when it revved the a little bit it was obvious two cylinders were missin'.

$200 you might get a 2nd hand cam, doubt it would be lumpy..
and dont expect to get much of an exhaust for that $200 either..
as for gain, with the exhaust i said before you'd go slower.. with the cam, maybe a touch harder, doubtful with stock ecu though

buy a spare coil with the $200 and disconnect a lead, it sounds about the only feasible option with $200 hahahahaha

Buy a cruddy 253 holden motor and box and get out the welder? Performance increase? Minus around half of you current RWKW.

My ol' crate doesn't sound too bad at idle, some others here will testify... I dare say it sounds like an 8 at idle, but take off and you know its a six. .650 thou lift cam, extractors and 2.75 inch exhaust with only 1 muffler does that...

ive got the exhaust sorted, that sounds like an 8cyl, extractors to an interchangable pipe. 1 muffler, then the rear muffler has flanges both sides, so i can take it off and replace it with straight pipe i have with flanges on each end. very nice sound.

Damn straight. Ask anyone who was at Heathcote when I dropped the pipes on the EB. Mmmmmm unburnt fuel igniting.

It was loud, the cam was lumpy as hell, but it didn't sound anything like at 8.

How much power would be lost running a twin 2.25" (or even twin 2" exhaust) - with cat. - on a EL Fairmont? It would produce a pretty good sound, but is it worth it for the amount of power lost?

(sorry for hijack, just curious)

revelry only run twin 2.25 if you run 6-2 extractors, no collector, two cats then a twin system.

I don't know about that, the ol 250 2V with a lumpy cam and twin exhaust's can sound very similar to a mild 8.

There is a sound clip over at fordmods with someone running a stage 2/3 Alted cam, and it is lumpy as f#ck! Can't say it sounds that crash hot, but it might be the sound you're after.
