Default A bit of useless info.

Have a mate that's spent over 5 yrs restoring a 70's David Brown tractor.. And an awesome job he's done too!
Anyhow he calls it "his Aston"... As in Aston Martin.
Finally I just had to ask.. "why call a bloody tractor Aston"?
Well blow me down.. The DB (as in Aston Martin DB5 or DB8 or 9) actually stands for David Brown (as in tractors) Apparently David Brown tractors bought the struggling Aston Martin company for 20,000 pounds back in the late 40s and the DB model designation has been ever since!

(and I thought I knew everything!)

I can think of another well known supercar producer that started the same way!

The David Brown Tractors at the time of their association with Aston Martin used Aston's gearboxes; which explains why your mate refers to it as his 'Aston'.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

My surprise was more at never knowing that DB stood for David Brown.. I wonder how many DB9 owners know that their 400 grand baby is named after a Tractor?

Still do in fact.

Their first product was steel for watchmaking (spring steel) and they later went on to knives , salt and pepper grinders and bicycles.
Still make bikes too.

Citroen started out making industrial gears and supplied the steering gears for Titanic and other liners of that era.

Very clever marketing and supply back up too if you want to know the full story.

Ferruccio Lamborghini started out making tractors after WWII from tank parts and later built oil heaters, They still do that as well.

Peter.

I had a peugeot, and was given a set of peugeot salt and pepper grinders. In hindsight I probably would have got a better trade in with the grinders than the car. The grinders are excellent, shame about the cars.

They are owned by Lion Nathan who is in turn owned by Kirin.
Kirin is a member of the Mitsubishi keiretsu.
My understanding after reading that wikipedia page is that Mitsubishi don't own Kirin, but own shares in their company and Kirin owns shares in Mitsubishi.

And there is the story that after making a whole heap of money from Tractors, Mr Lamborghini bought a ferrari, but was unhappy with the car. After a fiery exchange with Il commendatore himself, Enzo said "if you know so much about it, why don't you go out a build your own car'?!? Supposedly everytime ferrari brings out a whizbang limited edition model, Lamborghini brings out one too, with slightly higher horsepower, just to stick it up Ferrari.

Supposedly.

good job on the tractor, looks very good, it`s quiet a stark contrast to how a lot of them end up on farms
;).
