Default VE 2 door coupe?

Was driving in the city just now and saw a bright yellow VE Commodore, took me a while to comprehend that it was a 2 door. Does anyone know anything about them? I'm guessing it's a custom job as i'm pretty sure VE's don't come in coupes.

IIRC, it was a sedan, might have been a ute...and it was shortened to get the proportions right, long coupes look silly with a big bum. The Commodore based Monaro was shorter then the sedan...

Only reason I can see them using the ute as a base is to save on cutting out sections, I can rember seeing a in-build photo of it in Street Machine....much more complicated then "welding a roof on" whole sides from a sedan being used and modified to accept the slightly lengthened doors...

Does the ute have longer front doors?(looks like it) as that they key to the Coupe.

trying to change a Sedan to have bigger front doors would be a nightmare

The orange car makes me think of a Beamer coupe done up with add-on aftermarket stuff.

If all the ricer stuff was taken off that VE then it could look great.

I don't mind it all. But I cant see why someone would go to that trouble to throw on some cheap wheels. I like the body styling and the colour though.

Nope, VE ute doors are the same as sedan...IIRC the last utility to have longer doors was the XA, that had coupe doors...

Same wheelbase as the sedan but shorter overall. Length taken from the rear.
Also lower height to the roof. Same windscreen as the sedan, but laid back more.

Had to get a windscreen replaced on mine just after they went on sale and no one could categorically state what the windscreen was. Local Holden spare parts said they are the same but must be a typo. Turns out they were right, and wrong.

Wheels Magazine published photos of a VE coupe test mule around 2007-08. I can't find them on the internet, but the only thing that became of that was the Coupe 60 concept.

Holden may have had plans to build it after all.
