Default Mechanical business names

Hi all. I am opening a new workshop here in Auckland later this year or earlier next year, depending on when the builder is finished. I have been struggling to find a good name for it,so thought I would ask you guys if you have seen any good ones or can suggest a goody. So far we have come up with:
mechaniX
Motovation
Motorvation
Plus a couple of others that we don't like. Any ideas for one that would be good?

That's also good advice if you happen to have an unfortunante name.
There's a Mercedes workshop I pass regularly owned by a bloke named Stan Kass.
For some inexplicable reason he decided to run both names together in one word, resulting in Stankass Motors.

Sorry not an idea, but my thought's on what you have.

With Motovation it, to me, sounds as though it's for motorbikes.

And with Motorvation would you have any copyright problems with the event. Probably not being in NZ, but it ay be something to be wary of.

Otherwise it isn't a bad name.

Good luck with it.

Why not? It worked very well for harvey norman, dick smith, bing lee and probably many others. And they have grown rather large.

Same with Walkinshaw etc. But opening a small workshop is not the same as a huge franchise.

Bill Smith Automotive just screams, sole proprietor, small mechanic. I'd rather go with a Motorvation type name than a normal name one. Unless of course you're famous.

Plus if you ever go to sell the business, it will actually de-value it, as Bill Smith is no longer there....

Do you have a specialty or is it just general mechanical? I guess if you were peformance orientated then you might want to emphasise that in the business name some how. Unless you have no desire to branch out and get bigger, I'd probably steer clear of a self titles business like others are suggesting. But going by what you've said I don't think you want to go down that road anyway.

I'd call my workshop "Complete tool"

But I think the humor would be lost on some people.

Isn't there some deal in Australia where if your business name include's your own name, you get out of paying something (taxes/fee's)?

Didn't seem to affect Dick Smith much!! He made a fair bit off selling it! And people still think he is associated with it .

My advice, just don't go calling it Mike Hunts Cars

It will probably more about how you market the name, but yes having a good base helps.

It's all in jest obviously. However, I wouldn't come to a forum looking for peoples opinions on business names. Won't take long for someone to steal his intellectual property.

There was a nocking shop in Sydney (it may still exist) called the service center, a rep with a company I used to work for used to submit claims for it in his expences, the fleet manager looked at his cars account and saw that the R&M was through the roof and there was no list of the work carried out in the file so he called them up for details.

That rep was asked to hand in his resegnation, as wat another guy who also was getting serviced there
