Exclamation How Much Do you Fill Up With The High Petrol Prices?

Hey guys, just wondering if you have reduced your spending on fuel lately since the petrol keeps on going up.

I used to spend $60 - $65 On Fuel a pw, when fuel was @ $1.23, now i spend between $50 - $65 on (Good Pay Week,)

yep to the brim each time. Don't have a choice in how much. Daily drive needs petrol. Usually about 50-60 litres per week

Cheers

When I was using ULP I would fill to the top each Wednesday before they jacked the prices up in the evening.

On LPG I now fill up when I run out. The only place to jack the price up alongside ULP is the woolies servoes. Typically 5cpl dearer from Weds morning until Friday.

No... if I need fuel I'll fill all the way up.

If it's insanely expensive, I might put some in and fill up properly when cheaper, but generally stopping for fuel is one of those chores I absolutely get sick of, so when I do I make sure I fill to the brim. I'm surprised I dont run out, I always put it off and put it off and fill up when the needle is down to the "E" on the work ute or the DTE on the XT is nearly to 0

Whenever I get fuel, it's a fill only. I couldnt stand getting say 10 bucks here and there. One stop for fuel approx every 5-7 days.

I dont let it get below a quarter. 1, Safest way to never ever run out. 2, Dont pick up any of the sh!t that settles on the bottom of the tank. When it gets there just fill it up. I'm going to use the same amount of fuel each week so might aswell do it in 1 stop rather than 6.

I've always just put $50 in when I need to fill up regardless of price. I only need to fill up every fortnight or so.

In the cortina I never put more than $20 because I like to keep the weight down.

In the merc I use to fill it up. $140+

I only ever use mobile 98 octane. Some times caltex 98.

I would rather have my car towed than put shell in it.

yeah same here LPG = win win. Just fill it up when I get near empty.
chuck $20 of the expensive stuff in from time to time when its cheap. Then every couple of months I give it a good run on petrol to empty the tank and start over again.

keep the weight down? :
you do know that petrol weighs about 740 grams per litre?
so for a full tank of say 60L thats 44kg?

if you run LPG its even less, about 500 grams per litre, and assuming you have a bigger tank - say 80L so thats 40kg.

not a whole lot in that - considering if you average the weight over the time you are driving, you are carrying an average of 25kg of fuel, not a lot of weight! less than your little bro or that alpine stereo with amps and massive woofers.

your more likely to cost yourself more money from consistently having less than a quarter of a tank, you are giving the steel in the tank more chance to oxidise (rust), if you have an electric fuel pump in tank you run the risk of burning it out quicker, picking up more crap from the bottom of the tank or even the possibility of your car not starting if you park on an incline (had this happen to our commwhore, the angle was only like 5-10 degrees, hopeless....)

also in a place like i do, where the fuel stations close at 8pm, if you decide you wanna go somewhere, you need to already have that fuel or you're staying home for the night.
I work at the servo and it just seems so silly to be coming into the fuel station almost everyday of the week for your 10 or 20 bucks, if your sucked in to buying anything while you there at the ridiculous prices they charge you're better off going to a fuel station as little as possible!

when the car comes out like 4 or 5 times a month, and i need fuel i will fuel it right up dont care bout price, but usually bout $85 to fill i think, then i use it then have to take it a few time more that month to get rid of the fuel sitting in the tank dont want it going off, with the ute well work pays for it so gets filled up when it need it price doesnt matter, but that usually round $65 to fill

i think this thread is about whether you have reduced the number of km's that you drive due to higher fuel prices rather than how much fuel you put in your car each time you stop for fuel...

or maybe i'm the only one that sees the original post differently.

either way, i think the thread title and the original post don't match.

if people need to drive to work, then how are they going to reduce the amount of fuel they put in???

i'm guessing OP's question is mainly aimed at those that go 'cruising' every night of the week. but since i'm not 17 anymore and i have better things to do in my spare time, my answer would be: no, i use the same amount of fuel regardless of price.

Same here a tank a week maybe even more depends on how much extra cruising I do on the weekends.

I'm usually 20-45 but several times a week, because I don't have that much cash reserve on me usually. So I've also ticked 60-80 and 100 because it usually adds up to that much anyway.

Its a Turbo Diesel Focus, it needs fuel every 740kms or every couple of weeks or so. The price doesnt vary enough to worry about it.

I just fill up when needed. The EL is on LPG, so that costs me about $35-$40 for my weekly travels, approx 500kms.
The Peugeot last cost me $80 to fill up due to the price of diesel being just under $1.50/L

With the bike I generally fill it right up, Only $20 anyway, any less would be a pain in the ***, cause they don't go that far to a tank. Most 4cyl buzz boxes are more fuel efficient than bikes... But then again, there not as much fun either lol

With the car, generally only put $50 in at a time. I don't drive it much anymore, and don't want the petrol to go stale. I'm lucky to put 5km a week on my XR now :-(
