When do performance mods go beyond the scope of 'normal' insurance?

Just wondering if anyone has had any insurance hassles with minor perf mods such as replacing the air intake snorkel and air filter box top? I'll ring my insurer to explicitly check but I'm afraid I may get someone who doesn't understand how subtle (and completely reversable) the mods are.

Speaking of subtle, am I actually going to notice any difference? :Up_to_som

I think it differs with each insurer.

I can tell you that my car is with JustCar Insurance and they allow unlimited mods as long as they are informed of them, and of course the premium may increase (and prolly will if major mods). For an air filter for example they prolly wouldnt give a stuff.

You will need to ring them and talk about it with them. And try to get someone who know what an intake is lol

RACQ is quite good to me. Recently got promoted to rating two.

As far as "normal mods", they won't allow lowering 3 inches and lower (Equivalent of King Superlows), and forced induction AFAIK. And also, they won't insure cars that have a wheel diameter bigger than 2" from factory.

I dont wanna give you any bad advice but if its only that ur doing, just add it on and if u ever need to do a claim quickly switch it over!! How does that sound??

Wow most insurance companies dont insure more than a 30mm drop (1.5") from stock height.

Gave RACV a call and he said it was covered and wouldn't make any difference to my premium. He did ask about pod filters a couple of times, so I guess that may have changed things. No worries for now.

NRMA recently made a guideline for no aftermarket intake mods/air intakes for forced induction cars.... You wouldn't think they'd make that much difference.
