Default Krispy Kreme = Licence to print money?

I had never gone to Kispy Kremes...not avoiding it just never got around to it.

So I dropped someone off at Sydney Airport and decided to grab a coffee and try some of these donuts that I heard so much about. Anyway I check out the impressive machinery as I shuffle along the long que of people not really looking at the board (or prices). Then as it is my turn I order 6 donuts and a regular flat white, I keep shuffling along and the chick that served me asks for like $15 something.....WTF did I just order I think to myself....so I confirm that I ordered 6 donuts and a flat white not 16 donuts....."yes, only six sir!"....anyway I pay and move on :

So I notice that they are charging like $2.20 for one friggen donut and there are people buying like 24 at a time! :

The donuts are not bad but are all these peole insane...now I'm no cheapie I like to eat out, I only buy the best for my car, my tools are top of the line....my clothes are usually a decent brand...but Jesus, Mary and Joseph 15 buck for 6 donuts is seriously wrong!

They must be making a killing.....has anyone actualy gone back a second time? Or is it just me, am I a tight in my old age?

All I know is nobody else makes a donut like them... I know... I'm a donut fanatic. You want a KK donut? That's the price... I'm happy with it, and the donut.

$6.80 US on the NYSE says that they have a few fans, but that is slightly down on the near $50 US dollars in mid 2003. This might explain how the rate of fat people may be in decline in the US of A.

$2.20 isn't that bad.

A normal doughnut joint eg DCM's or Donut King will charge $2 for the average large size doughnut.

Yea they are much cheaper when u buy them by the dozen. Usually around $13. But my god we have a new shop here in newcastle and you cant get anywhere near the place for all the people. I know they are good but geez, on the first night they opened they sold out and had to wait 45 mins for more stock and the line didnt go anywhere :

I live in Tassie and we dont get them, but I was recently in Sydney, and after hearing so much about them, decided to try. They were the most over-rated, over-priced things I have ever had. They alright, but they are not worth the cost, not even half the price.

No thats 45 mins for more dounuts to get there, then the wait in line on top of that. And i agree with you Jeld-wen, whilst i do enjoy them, the hype is defintly too much.

wash your mouth out with turps dan. ive been doing that all week and i recommend it.

you get what you pay for. if you want a donut assembled from floor sweepings, flour, phlegm with an extra special needle prize inside, buy an average donut from the tuck shop for a dollar.

If you want something that can clog your arteries in sugary goodness and make your heart stop in 7 seconds flat, Krispy Kreme it is.

If you want neither because you are too health conscious, feel free to shuffle into the corner and adjust your panty shield.

I don't like donuts (as a rule). Can't stand the ones from Donut King etc... Actually I'm not a big fan of sweet / sugary food at all.

However - I really love Krispy Kremes, and every time I'm in Sydney for work, I'll bring back anywhere from 12-48 depending on how much of a guts I think I'll make of myself before I get on the plane, and if any friends / relatives want some when I get back (which they no doubt will hound me for)

(for the record - we don't have them in QLD - which is why it's a bit of a big thing for travellers - I wouldn't be buying them at the airport if we could get them here. we have an imitation place called dreamy donuts or something - but they're worse than donut king)

If you want quality you have to pay for it....$13.95 per dozen is pretty cool to me.
