I mean give the Terri an open tray at rear, try to compete with Hilux or Colorado. 2WD or 4WD - seats 4. It would cannibalise ute sales a tad, but you would offer it at a different price point. Im sure it could use some ute parts.
Am I crazy? It would be the only Aussie-made offering for such a vehicle. |

They could put a really good diesel in it. Make the same size, if not bigger than the Hilux, make it a 2 or 4WD and a petrol variant in 2 or 4 door configurations. Upspeck model they could have leather seats and a 6 speed auto and call it Wildtrack or something similar and the base models could be called Ranger just to differentiate it from the Terry! Could design it in Australia but make it overseas so it's competitive against the Hilux and sell it to the world! Might just work.

Hey, forget making custom sheet metal, why not just bolt the Territory running gear under a Falcon Ute?
AWD. Diesel. IRS. Win Win right? You couldn't do that on the BA/BF because of the difference in the front suspension (which is probably why the RTV was not AWD). But now that the FG has virtual pivot at the front - why not? Well, one reason why not, is that it wouldn't be ruggedised like the Ranger. It would fall apart at a mine site. But then a Falcon/Commodore ute would be the same. And it wouldn't be much chop off road without the clearance of the Ranger. Then again, this would be a new market - a 'Soft Road' AWD Ute that drives like a car. Ford could take the new market segment and make it it's own..... Lukeyson

You could even try it from a different angle - sport truck. So it would still have a functional tray. There would be a market for this.
My thinking would be the Territory sport could be a SUV or truck. Slightly bigger wheels, have access to the XR color range. Choice of diesel or 4.0L petrol. At the moment they only market the Terri to families. Last edited by turbodewd; 30-01-2012 at 11:49 AM. |

Did FPV do something similar at a MMS. It was more recreational though.

 Could Ford ever make a Territory truck? (Hilux competitor)Not a hope in this current climate and if it did have something to throw at the Toyota products it would fall apart miserably as we all know how well the suspension parts last .

We can fantasise over these ideas such as a Territory truck or the crew cab Falcon ute which is also being discussed for example. But are they realistic? No they are not
Ford's competitor to the Hilux is the Ranger and I don't see why that would change in the foreseeable future. |

for starters the territory is a monoconstruction where as the others are a body chassis construction calk and cheese I'm afraid

I remember people asking why bother making a territory when you get a pajero which goes more off road....
A territory dual cab is the next step in the evolution of the dual cab ute. More and more dual cabs are family car substitutes. This is the key for Australian manufacturers, to continuously innovate and find new segments. |

What would be the point of a Territory ute when there is already the Ranger?
Unless it was more of a 'higher class' with some form of luxuries. But even if it would get made i think i would actually choose it over the ranger, i dunno there is just something about the front end on the new territory that i really like |

I think Territories front end on Ranger would look heaps better than the new Ranger.
Imagine it has a box tray out back. Works doesn't it?

One Ford doesn't allow product duplication. A Territory dual cab would be nearly an exact duplication of Ranger dual cab.
And the new Ranger is getting more car like than any previous dual cab bar maybe the Amorok, so there is little to be gained. IRS might help it drive a bit better but it wouldn't carry much of a load. |

The Holden Crewman sold so well that Im sure Ford is just itching to do the same thing to the Territory.
Remember these fantasy Ford vehicles brought up in the last few days have been done already by someone else and where are they now? Adventra, Crewman, AWD tonner utes. Ford may have some success with a LWB Territory, but with a Ranger wagon in the next 12-18 months there isnt a point.
