Default Stater problems...

Got a Question on an EA. Was driving the car when all of a sudden she started to hesitate when even slight throttle was applied. Pulled over and tried restarting the car. Battery was dead. clicking from the enginebay. Towed home and after having the battery on charge all night (battery 3 months old) put it in and tried again. Clunking and grating sounds from the starter. Sounding like the pistons smashing into the head. Put gearbox in neutral and tried spinging the crank with a socket and it turns freely. My question is, does this sould like a shorted out solenoid on the throwout gear for the starter??? Thanks

Brent

This sounds similar to what happened to AcidBurns on an early cruise in Vic. I think it was a shorted out starter motor in the end and he had to get it towed. Hopefully someone will remember the details.
