Default pollution gear

gday fellas,
i dont know a great deal on engines and im looking to replace my 5ltr and get a 5.8ltr xe fairmont. i enquired about one and the seller replied with:
"pollution gear not fitted
-Charcoal chamber is there but not connected
-Holley carbie"
form above, how much work would need to be done? and what does it mean?

I believe if you interfere with pollution stuff, then there is a huge fine.
But where there are no annual inspections, like here in WA, then go for it.
Who's gunna know!

There's abit of farting around to hook all the original gear up, but like 1970galaxie said, living in WA can have it's priviledges ;)

The charcoal cannister is a filter. One small hose goes from the fuel tank and the other to a vacuum port on the carby/manifold. It basically sucks all the bad air from your fuel tank and burns it in your engine. It sits on the passenger firewall and looks like a black milo can ;) The guy wuld have taken the hose off going to the carby or has it coiled up with a bolt in the end.

There's a few other bits and pieces that hook up to the manifold and carby. Get hold of a workshop manual and it displays all the connections real simply.

if your on dual fuel/straight gas, i you can get away with a holley, i did...
its just alot of hoses and crap, i can post pics of my XD V8 so you can see where they come from and go to...
