Default AU1 XR8 Herrod mods identification.

Hi all,

So, my 98 XR8 has a herrod decal on the boot. I figured it was a souvenir from a visit to the workshop or that a shifter or something meaningless like that was fitted.

I recently noticed that my airbox has a aluminium bell mouth fitted (attached) but I didn't think these came out on the S1?

There's a label on the Drivers side rocker cover with 11/98 written on it but it's so faded that I don't know what it's referring too.

Herrod themselves couldn't help, records from 98 were lost.

Simply, what should I be looking for as evidence of Herrod mods?

Cheers, Mike.

Thanks mate, thought that might be the case. Weird that everyone mentions the 185s only got headers over the 175's, seems like that's not the case huh!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Anyone got any info on the Herrod mods circa AU1 XR8s??

Cheers.

Depends on how far they went with it, could be things like exhaust/headers/cats, rocker changes (from 1.6 to 1.72RR's, pop a valve cover off and if you see Yella Terra rockers they will be 1.72) and maybe some other engine bits and pieces. The obvious stuff like brakes and suspension should be pretty easy to pick - if the springs are red or yellow it's been modified.

Brakes are slotted and twin piston, have not measured them but def not 330s.

Will check the rockers out when next under the hood.

Exhaust appears to be standard xr8.

Is lower than a standard xr.

All that said though, there's been a few owners before me, so I'm trying to work out what's Herrods work and what isnt.

Cheers.

My AU Herrod modified XR8 has a Herrod build plate with a number riveted on the inner guard next to the Tickford plate.

I don't have the plate under bonnet, so the the car is likely not Herrod modified.

However, it looks like I may have scored a highly prized and much sought after Herrod modified boot lid!

(or as suspected, a previous owner has added a decal to the boot.)

Thanks guys, I'll update if I find anything interesting
