Essentially, all Mk 2 gearboxes are the same. Same ratios, everything. The only difference is the speedo drive, so its best to get one out of a 2lt so you don't get any speeding fines. My Old RS had a 1300 box and it registered 65kph when I was clearly doing over 100kph.
You can use a 1600 Capri GT box for better ratios, but you have to get the right clutch and may involve redrilling the clutch housing to match your flywheel. You also have the gearstick a little further back that a standard manual, but yours being auto, you wont notice it. Prop might be difficult as you'd have to get a Mk 1 Escort one to match the splines.

Keep everything you can store. Bits for Mk 2s are getting difficult to source, these days. Stuff I used to throw out, are even fetching money, so whatever you can scounge from a wreck, please do.
I used to sell a lot of Escort/Capri parts but its slowed in recent years due to the lack of cars about. I'm in Narre Warren, which is not too far away if you need any other bits or advice. Send me a PM if you need my contact details.
