Sometimes your Insurance will cover windscreen replacement, may be worth looking into first......

Sounds like there must of been a small stone chip in the windscreen first, windscreens don't crack that easily.

Unless she went over it so hard that the car bottomed out just behind the front wheels (and under the windscreen) That might do it.

But as has been said, most insurance policies cover at least one windscreen a year.

Does the car flex? That is pathetic.

On topic, try the insurance company, alternatively try VW. Was the windscreen fitted correctly from the factory?

With the rain sensor it is going to cost abit. The position of these is behind the Rear view mirror on the windshield

Is it a warrantable item - or a known vehicle fault ???? If so, I'd be getting the dealer to replace it.

Obriens isn't expensive. When my 08 Lancer got smashed =/...., I was quoted $450 in Cairns and it has automatic windscreen wipers. Doesn't hurt to get a quote.

Also my insurance covered the windscreen, so I didn't have to pay :

Insurance will only cover it if you bought the optional windscreen cover at time of buying the policy. Well worth the extra $35-40 on top of your annual premium I reckon given the shocking state of the roads.

BA/BFs have been known to crack from the corners from flex and poor body finish around the windscreen.

Just an update. I found a small chip where the rear vision mirror sits & has cracked from there. The wife has no idea how long it could have been there.....
There is a great variance in price from high $800 to low $300, all with rain sensor cells built in (black dots behind the rear vision mirror). No sc reen made locally & all complied with Aust standards.
Thanks for input

A friend of mine has an '09 golf and it had a crack from top to bottom. Got replaced under warranty. If there's a crack then tough to claim warranty unless the chip was caused by the fracture?

First gen BMW Mini's had a common problem of windscreens cracking due to cornering. A mate had his replaced 5 times under warranty then sold the car as ahe was sick of it.
