The standard ration in a MK2 1600 is 3.77....if you plan to do a few mods you might try a 3.99 or 4.11

Depends on how and where you plan to drive - 3.77:1 at 100kph should be around 3,700rpm - going to 4.11s will drive you insane if you do any highway runs...

Hi, had a couple of these until recently. Yes it depends on what your going to do with it.
I still have a 5.1 which is used for hillclimbs etc. No good for any Highway stuff.
As others have said 3.9 would be okay. Or 4.11 4.44 if you are going to get a 5spd gearbox with overdrive. Best of both worlds !!!!!
