I doubt it will happen, they been talking about it for years, and if you think about the taxes and fee's the .gov takes from it, it would be like banning Smokes.... theres too much profit there me thinks.

Besides, if they do it, they can wait till July next year....

It doesn't matter how many cylinders you have when you hit a car/tree/pedestrian etc. 4 Bangers will do 100km/h in a 60 zone just like a V8 will.

I also believe that most shenanigans played out in cars happens at relatively low speeds and that the stupid stuff that happens at higher speeds (whilst appalling and un-neccessary) is a minor contributor to the road toll, certainly far less than the stuff that seems to get no coverage at all - like brain farts and complacency.

Not condoning those things, I just think that we are only told about the things that can be fixed by adding another tax or fine.

I'm a P Plater... i'm also 24, late bloomer, im glad i was, coz i spent my "Hoon" years as a passanger, i also respect the value of a $, and i cant afford to get speeding tickets or neg-driving tickets, nor can i afford to fix my car.... so i dont see the point in driving like a complete tool.

I agree 100%, which is why it annoys me that right now, on my L Plates I can drive a Shelby GT500, when I'm on my P plates I can drive my 2V ute, but not a 260ci American Falcon that has less power than my ute does.

Edit: I still never understand why people expect logic from government......

Almost the same as you...I'm 26 mid year and still on my Ps...

The fact is that any car in the hands of an idiot is a weapon. You can kill somebody in a Getz, Prius or a Smart Car.

It's the government trying to apply band-aid treatment, and as we saw with the 'Alcopop Tax', we know how successful applying that principle is.

Yes but how many, or better still, what percentage do? And the percentages of young people who do are still too high. I believe a higher age will come in before a 4 cylinder limit. These will come about when the 120 hour P platers have had some time to make their mark on the figures.

normally they say that if the rule came in after you had it in your name your allowed to drive it!

i would be soo annoyed by pimped out corolla's and lazer's if they made 6 cylinders for only black licences

I don't see why they would enforce it. The steps on power adders may be further looked at.

Possibly there next target will be licensing issued on completion of manditary advanced driving courses.

As mentioned, you can still be a fool in a 4cyl :sm_headba

Cheers

I don't know whether it will happen but it should...

Motorcyclists have capapcity limits for years after they get their licence- at the moment a 17 yo can get in a V8 or my car (BF XR6) and damage or kill themselves or someone else.

Of course it will come in, the new ones here in Vic banned V8s and tightened up on the power to weight ratio rule, plus ruled out any mods that "increase performance" from engine, meaning exhaust, pod filter etc anything that adds power to it = illegal.

I can't drive the Ford F100 with the tired 351, but I can drive the FG Falcon XR6 with no problems...

No rules on rotaries though, just power to weight. 12A still moves pretty damn quick in a 900KG car stock standard.

IMO the law should be power to weight ratio, end of story, none of this no V8s rule which doesn't make sense. They've specifically banned some 6 cyl cars too, they could just do that for the V8s as well.

I want to find out the exact rules on engine transplants though, I got told before about no its not illegal as long as its under power to weight, but then on another forum, saw if it needs an engineer cert then it makes it illegal? I don't know which is right, I'll have to ring up VicRoads soon.

Funny, the state with all the politicians has the least retarded rules. I want to live in a state where I can buy fireworks, buy good hardcore porn over the counter and drive a V8 car without problems.

I think this is an outside shot, yet when you think about it, any car in the hands of an idiot will kill a person or cause a fatality. I spent 3 years cutting my teeth in a 4cyl car and it was outrageously painful after getting out the F100 which I still hate having lost, yet I still think it was the best thing for me. Having a semi-gutless 2.4L 4cyl car kept me from involving myself in pointless drag-offs.

There is no harm in restricting a P plater to a 4 cyl car, I really think that having P plate drivers behind the wheel of HiPo cars leads to an ego contest.

I watched my brother destroy his Cortina TF-250 with a high tuned Falcon Straight 6 in it, man that car was gorgeous, and it went like a bat out of hell...

He drove it too fast around a corner, span out, bang, guardrail

5 mins later me and my mum drove past on the way to work... :P busted lol

Poor car

Being in a small 4 cylinder or a V8 doesn't change your ego one bit, if you're a poophead you'll be the same no matter the car until you hopefully "grow out" of that attitude. The moment you turn 22 to get off your Ps doesn't make you mature either. All the P plate rule is going to do to people is make the traffic light grand prix more fair car wise.
