Default GPS in center console

I was thinking of purchasing a GPS unit for the Falcon the only thing I don't like is the idea that you have to stick them to the windscreen. I remember the AU's use to have the mobile phone holder which flipped out from the center console I was wondering if anyone has attempted to put a GPS into this? I am unsure if it would work but would like to see if anyone has given it ago as flipping it back into the console when done would be handy.

You could look for late model Fairlane/LTD dash centres, they had a built in screen.

As far as mounting it on the phone presenter, I'm sure it'd work, but they usually like having a good clear view of the sky. You may find its slightly less accuarate.

Thats how mine is setup, works fine. Can also fit a micro switch in behind the arm of the presenter and hard wire it so when the presenter is out it turns the power on, fold it away and power is automatically switched off.

As far as the unit needing a clear view of the sky, that used to be the case with the first GPS units, but nowadays, you could get most of them to work down a mineshaft! Ok, well not that extreme, but you won't have any hassles mounting it in the console signal wise.

/\ and if you did, you can always run an external antenna to the dash and hid the wiring under the dash and center console

In my AU, mine was setup the same, and I purchased an external antenna from ebay for $20 which I mounted on the dash in the centre at the very front under the windscreen

Cool, I might think about doing something similar then. I never wanted a GPS mounted on the windscreen.

Since we're on the same subject, would the wiring/fitment for the optional LTD/Fairlane dash be easier if you had a high series dash to start off with eg. Fairmont Ghia?

Can't say I am a fan of where yours is Bolly, blocks too much of the peripheral vision that way.

I've got a GPS tracker, hidden in the car (definitely no clear LOS to the sky), and it works just fine.

Ya could've at least vacumed the car b4 ya took the photo. :

I was looking into double din head units with gps in them for the Ghia.
I think it looks so much tidier if it's all in one unit in the middle of the dash.
What stopped me is at the time I couldn't find one that would allow music to be
on at the same time as the navigation was going.
