Default Stock Utes on the strip

First: sorry if this is in the wrong part.

I want to goto one of these drag days when i get my ute back, but it's pretty much stock. Will i get laughed off the track or are there normally other stock cars that race up the strip. I guess i'm worried that my little 6, is going to be paired against a heavily modified 8 that'll just blow my car off the track!

Hi.. AFF have a drag event 3 to 4 times a year, or you can race at Calder on a Friday night and theres Heathcote on Sundays.....
If you want to have some fun and race in a relaxed atmosphere our next meeting should be early next year....

Yep definitely go the AFF days for an easy introduction to drag racing, I have done a couple & guess what - my ute is basically a dead stock 6. I have had some very involved mods including 16" mag wheels on the back, taken out air cleaner for less restrictive intake & one meet I dropped the spare tyre off (couldn't be bothered after that). You get the picture... and I still beat some of the cars too.

Don't worry about what you are running against, just run your own race. The best idea is to watch what goes on to start with and get someone to explain the procedure to you.

My first run down the drag strip was a 17.1 ET. No one laughed at all. I then did a heap more with a best of 16.8. At that point people were not laughing, they were offering to help me find out what the problem was. If it wasnt for that day of racing I probably would never have realised the car had an issue that needed to be fixed (and probably never gotten hooked on mods either).

Do it, its great fun and will help you work out what you want to do next.. just dont blame us if the mod bug bites HARD.

Dont race it! It will cost you lots of money!

I raced my EB for the first time at one of these meets. Ran a PB of 17.9. So the mods began. $8K later I ran a 13.6. Then I blew the engine, I bought a turbo AU that I modded a little more and went 11.81, now Ive sold that so I can build something even faster!

It never ends!

A few weeks ago my brother and I took our cars to a Heathcote Test and Tune. A majority of the cars were 10, 11 and 12 second beasts. Mine was running mid 15s and my brother's was running very low 16s. We had the two slowest cars on the day, but we didn't care and neither did anyone else. No-one should ever be laughed at for having a go on the 1/4 mile no matter what sort of times their car is capable of.

for some further info. You'll find the slower cars are more consistant in the DYO (dail your own) bracket too ;) The faster you go the more room for error.

I'm with Mark on this one, sign up for the January meet and then there's no pressure on you. Just turn up and run whatever. Hell, you'll get a faster ET then I first got and no one gave me crap at all, just tried to help me work out whats wrong.

I'll be expecting to see you and your AU there

(oh, and I'll place a bet now you'll run in the 15's without ANY trouble)

MAn u will have a blast.. I got the same fun from runing my mid 15 sec falcon as what i did my 12 sec corty... Its all about trying to get the best time out of the car u have there. And of course once u have done it once... you keep having another crack to beat ya time and it all starts from there
