Default Factory body kits on V8 Supercars?

Who thinks the V8 supercars should have factory body kits?

I think it would be better if Holden and Ford were to chose a bodykit used on one production car based on the Commodore or Falcon.

For example GTS verus GT look V8 Supercars. Wheels can be different.

Some of the downforce issues can be addressed with suspension setups etc, but otherwise more sideways action anyway

I think it would also boost the local car industry, with the public being able to associate directly with the cars. This would boost GT and GTS status or whatever small production model that is brought out in future. eg GTHO

YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO BUY A CAR THAT AT LEAST LOOKS LIKE THE ONES RACED!

Not the same as a dedicated race between Holden and Ford with enhanced engines etc.

Why not make the V8 supercar kits optional on FPV's; on a stripped version.

Because no registering body would pass them as legal.

If they had to choose a body kit from a production car, Holden and Ford would be more likely to make one with a road/race body kit. At least one model would be set up for racing.

The GT's are the closest on offer, atleast you can see GT in the V8 setup!

They have the body kits on for a reason, withoutt the down force they can't do the speeds they do.

If you want slower, factory looking cars well just park your fold up chair next to a highway.

Or you can see the supposed "pinnacle" of australian motorsport in the way it is done at the moment.

If they are going to go to standard bodykits, they might as well go standard motors too.

1. The body kits make them slower in a straight line.

2. V8Supertaxis are not the pinacle of Australian motorsport, Formula 3 is.

The current production engines are also bigger in both Holden and Ford :

Depends how you look at it, when was the last time Formula 3 had 200,000 people turn up to watch them (not F1 or other) over a race weekend?

They may be a tad faster, but I assure you most of the F3 drivers would jump into a fulltime V8SC seat without a seconds hesitation, if they were given the opportunity that is.

no v8 supercars are the pinnacle of australian motorsport. on an international level maybe not but nationally nobody other then the drivers and sponsors themselves give a (f word) about formula 3

and also, the body kits on supercars do not produce alot of downforce. compared to other categories anyway

Agreed. Open wheelers are the pinnacle of motor racing.

Everyone busts their nut to get in to them and try and make it overseas. If that doesn’t work out they can always go down a formula or come back to good old Aus and take up taxi racing (Briscoe, Murphy (wanted to go IRL), Ingall, Courtney, Lowndes, etc, etc). Look at the ex-F1 guys in the DTM championship.

The body kits produce enough drag that a 1960's Camaro with the aerodynamics of a brick is faster down Conrod straight than a V8Supertaxi.

Crowds don't determine if a class is the pinacle or not. The technology of a V8Supertaxi does not compare with a Formula 3 and neither do the drivers skills or the lap times. A F3 is typically six seconds per lap faster than a V8Supercar. Look at the drivers. The bulk of the good drivers in V8Supercars are good drivers because they raced openwheeler classes such Formula Pacific, Formula 4000 and Formula 3.

No Australian F3 driver would prefer to drive a V8Supercar over a drive in a Formula car in Europe or America. Why would you choose a drive in a V8Supercar over a path that could lead to F1, Indy or A1GP? F3 drivers only drive in V8Supertaxis because they can't make it overseas and it offers them a way to make money out of driving cars. If it wasn't for the pay they would choose to race F3's over V8Supertaxis. Nothing compares to an openwheeler such as a F3 or F4000; just ask Craig Lowndes.

By "a tad faster" did you mean around 6 seconds a lap quicker? Formula 4000's are quicker again, being within a few seconds of A1GP cars.

Have a look at the following Alumini for F4000 and F3. Name some V8Supertaxi drivers who have gone on to be succesful in the international arena.

:

Well does a 1960's Camaro have a full FIA-spec roll cage and two extra doors? Apples with apples people.

Also the V8SC run controlled diff ratios, rev limiters, gearbox ratios etc.

If you don't like the V8Supercars, then go ahead and create your own catergory, oh wait, the production catergory already exists! Go and support that (because they need it), in the mean time stop complaining about the most successful form of Australian motorsport ever and stop trying to change it to a formula the majority don't want to see!

The whole "Production Racing is better than the V8SC/Taxis" argument shows its head every few months on these forums. And for some reason, the solution is to change the highly successful V8SC series. If you think your idea would be half as succecful as the taxi-series, then go ahead and do it FFS.

So the roll cage makes it slower?

Amongst other things, yes. How much do you think a V8SC rollcage weighs?

We appear to have wandered somewhat from the point of this and we have a section for these discussions.
