Default possibly selling the SC GT !!!!

Wife has new job , where she can lease vehicles which willl be replaced every 6 months , anything from a barina to a BMW . I wont go into details but lets just say its a pretty good offer , imagine leasing and updating every 6 months for less than the cost of buying .
to put it blatantly we may sell our 2011 GT PURCHASED UNDRIVEN IN FEB 2012 SC 6SPD AUTO WITH STRIPES TINTS AND LEATHER , 17,000KMS CONCOURSE CONDITION . STOCK AS A ROCK .
UNSURE WETHER I CAN PART WITH IT YET , BUT THE THOUGHT IS THERE .

Why not get rid of it, it will only be superseded in due course anyway, cut your losses at this early stage will be much less costly. You might still get 50k it for now if you are lucky.

Keep the GT. The excitement of getting a new car every 6 months will wear off real quick, then you will never have true appreciation for a car again... Plus you have a freaking GT, they are a pretty damn cool car

Problem is, that $100k is barely entry level 5 series or speced up 3 series, you'll need $200k to replace the performance of the GT.....?

Mr Beige is on the money here, I've had 2 new cars, not good when you get bored of them and its not worth a pinch of goat guano.

Yeah not following the logic here. You have one car that you drive and the wife will be getting her own car leased.
Keep GT and get the new bimmer??

Yeah I don't see the issue either. There's a few of us on here with FPV's and Euro cars as well. Why not have the best of both worlds if you can afford it.

Wrap the GT in cling wrap, put it in a big sealed container and bury it in the yard, dig it up in 50 years or so and it will be worth a fortune

All jokes aside though, as others have said it's a GT, keep it if you can afford to, the way things are panning out with cars nowadays, chances are in the not too distant future you'll only be able to buy a GT with 2.0 ecoboost engine in it anyway, that's not the real deal :(

I don't beleive the lease is "free", he may not be able to afford paying off the GT and paying a lease for a new car.

My 2cents, get rid of the GT now, lease what ever you like, them hold off for the last FPV Falcon and get your hands on one of those, it's potentially only 3 years away (hopefully more).

BTW and 100K BMW, isn't that special (IMO a GT is more special). If you can justify $150ish in lease payments for a M3 then your talking something special.

well if you have a personal loan on an 80 grand car you have more money than sense
if its been tagged on to the house over 20 years its a bit diff

so she gets a work car but has to pay for it on some kind of lease?
i dont see that as getting a work car myself

hahahah , couple of things , wifes job does not pay Amazingly well , it's an hrly rate , 2ndly i do regret trading the BA GT IN on this car , i now have an FG XR6 AND A SC GT , COULDV'E BEEN 2 GT's in the garage , so it is only a thought , leasing a beamer and selling the xr6 and having both an SC GT AND BMW , isnt really saving anything , and really it's a bloody tough call selling the GT , I would do it for cost effectiveness only , but on the other hand , i'm bloody happy with the GT , IT AINT THE CHEAPEST OPTION ,, but its a pretty good one . but if we decide together to save a bit of money , we might sell the GT , and lease a new car every 6 months , if i could get a gt on the lease i would do that , but they dont sell GT's , options are wrx's and a few others infact only subaru , is what i'm hearing now . which is looking a little less attractive than it was at 1st .

Why would you tag an 80k car onto your mortgage? Cost a bucketload in the end.

I was thinking the same thing. Obviously your mortgage interest rate would be lower than a automotive finance interest rate but over the time period it would alot more dollars

Hi Frank, I'm not quiet following the situation you have in front of you here, but as a general rule if thumb I personally wouldn't be selling anything you have purchased that has an emotional attachment and then trading it on an something that hasnt. Unless your financial circumstances demand this of you of course. Doing so almost always ends in regret. If you are just not that attached to your GT then that's fine. If you are then it's a entirely different matter.

Best of luck.

i'll explain it simply , but all points mentioned here are valid . lets say our car is worth 50 grand . we have a mortgage all be it not a big one . it's tagged onto our mortgage then right , so technically we own the GT .
We now have an opportunity to lease a 50k car a WRX . So we sell the GT . PUT 50K into the mortgage , which means 100% home ownership in a couple of years .
to lease the WRX @1.1% P/MTH IS $125/WK + PETROL $60 . we dont own it , but every 6 months a new WRX comes into our possession , the car never gets old .
as a comparrison , our GT COSTS $100 /pwk petrol plus $60 costs . and our mortgage is 50 grand higher .
i told my wife i dont mind either way . I'm not the daily driver of HER GT . therefore the only time i drive it is NEVER , unless we go out on weekends , the rest of the time it sits on the M4 in traffic on the way to and from her work or goes to school and shops .
