escort mk1 eletrical fault

my mk1 escort is nearly back on the road but i think i got a dodgy earth somewhere. when i turn the key on the brake lights come on, and my headlights dont work. all the other lights work ok and i cant find anything wrong with it. can anyone help me, could it be a brake light switch and where is that. any help is great.

and if anyone has wiring diagrams for a mk1 esky that would help aswell coz i got cut wires and home job ИИИИ everywhere from the guy i bought it off
