Default Private car transport Perth - Melb/Syd

Just thinking logistics of buying an old car over east. Looking at driving over with a mates car trailer to pick it up. I've got friends and family to visit on the way so won't be a wasted trip. I could just send it on a truck but I wouldn't buy a car sight unseen, so flights/accommodation to inspect the car then transport will be $2.5K+. Flights are bloody expensive if you haven't booked them in advance!!!

If I drive the car trailer will be empty on the way over. Seems like a waste if there's nothing on it. Would you even consider getting (effectively) a stranger to transport your car over for cheap? Would help cover the fuel cost for me but obviously I'm not an insured tow truck driver so no dedicated insurance as such.

Just seeing if anyone has done it, was it worth taking the risk to save some $$$ for me and the car owner?
