Towing your friends V8 Commodore

My mate's Commodore broke down and I've offered to go tow it down. Thought I'd be cheeky and take a photo of it - to keep the old Ford/Holden rivalry going betwen us. What would look bettter - tow it with the wife's 3.9 EA manual sedan, or tow it with my V8 wagon auto?

wats wrong with using a manual to tow?? i used my manual to tow a 1.3 tone caravan-- no probs, usaing an auto the next time, overheating, very slow etc

ive towed heaps with my fairlane, the auto is still in awesome condition

Okay, I've towed him home. It was lucky his mags and ladder that was on the roof didn't go missing - since it had been where it was overnight. Just give us a couple of minutes to rip the top off a cold one to celebrate and pull the pictures off the camera. I'll post them shortly!

i hoped you used the EA. My old EA towed my first EA, my EB, my EF and random motors here and there, it loved it. I miss my EA :(

Well that's enough fun for the night at somebody else's expense. But that's what friends are for. Feel free to close this thread. PS: I think he had coil failure. Was still smelling fuel coming out the exhaust while cranking. Being a good mate I'll go around and help him again in the morning

I think a wagon towing a wagon would have looked better, plus I think towing with an auto is a little bit easier, you don't get so many stretches of the towrope.

My ute is rated at towing 1200kgs. It quite often town between 2 and 3 tonnes no worries at all. Sits on 100, hauls up over hills. The only thing thats a worry is stopping half way up a steep hill and having to take off from a standstill. I know its not the best practice, but after 120,000ks of abuse i've never had any problems, still on my original clutch. I've towed cars on car trailers hundreds of km at a time, am always towing my dingo around, which the whole set up weighs about 2200kg.

I think last time i was talking to someone who was rebuilding a T5 it cost them about $150 bucks for the bits, and a clutch is worth bugger all. Last auto i had that i towed with was replaced at 113,000km, and the second auto lasted another 42,000km. When i had that 1 rebuilt, it set me back $2500 bucks as it was rebuilt to V8 specs.

Never had a bad experience with a manual yet. Only autos!

i wasnt saying that i agree with it......you cant beat a manual for towing...
just saying that there must be a reason for ford to list those max towing limits for the respective cars.....something must have shown up during testing....
