Asbestos was outlawed in 2003, as for when they stopped using it in pads I have no idea.

Should have been outlawed years ago.
But then again, profits before safety prevails. There are still a few workshops fitting pads that they've had on their shelves for a few years (which contain asbestos). As I read in another thread, the spraying brake dust with an air hose thing is quite common and very dangerous. Happened where I worked a few times.
