Scarey sh**...Falken ZE-326's

Scarey sh** yesterday as im on my way to uni.

Here I am turning from Warragul Rd onto the Monash Fwy doing a right hand turn. And at this time it looks as if its gonna pi** down with rain, but only very light drizzle at this time.
From stand still, after 2 cars, casually turn the corner, no power at all, the rear end starts sliding out to the left!!!
No grip what so ever!
So i counter steer a little, and the rear grips for a bit, jack knifes the car right and I head straight for a brand new white BA!
Straighten up and I keep going...

I've heard that Falken ZE's havent been the best in the past, but man this just proves it!!! I'm definately getting new quality tyres before winter sets in! These tyres are deathtraps!!!

I don't rate Falken's highly at all anymore, my new Hankooks have heaps more grip in both the wet and the dry and I seriously mean more grip, I literally need to rev the ring out of the engine before they'll spin in the dry, and when they do they don't spin for long and they were only $99 each compared to the $180 I paid for the falkens. Never gettin Falkens again

And the place i got em from over a year ago recommended them :S

But other tyres guys have definately said "get others next time"

Yeh i just got some recently.. Thought i got a good deal, and thought they were good but they have no grip at all. I paid $150 a tyre for em..wot did u's all pay?

kumho 17's are wikid, wet weather, heavy braking and turning NO TRACTION LOSS *as experienced in my bro's ef with abs at AAMI driving course

i had falkens, and they started to get big chunks out of them... never seen it before in my life and i wont be going near them again, id go hankook, or kumho

thats some good advice there! i have never seen as much damage done to a tyre (besides at calder burnout comp!) than the night me and a few mates cut sic in my old EA wagon in some dust bowl we found, and that was only for about 20 minutes!

anyways, the two best sets of tyres i have seen are the Pirelli P6's i have now, grip like anything, great in the wet, but quite soft.
the next set i will get is the Toyo Trampio, they are awesome! grip just as good as the Pirelli's but are a bit harder, so last longer.

I told my dad the same story when I ended up facing the wrong way in traffic(similar conditions).
Come on, you gave it a stab didn't you.
Sure your tyres aren't bald, and how are the rear shocks?

ive got falkens on the front and ive only had one scary moment when it understeered towards a gutter in pouring rain. somehow straightened up without clipping the gutter..

they are crap, a very budget tyre.....

Light drizzle on a road will be more slippery compared to a wet road after/during rain.
AAMI driving course can't be wrong, can they? ;)

Any tyre dealership or retail outlet of any sorts for that matter will always recommend a product if the manufacturer have incentives inplace for the month to reach budget and bonuses. Not many give two S..ts about the affect afterwards...

I had a severe accident (could've easily been fatal if there were cars coming in the other direction) when I had Wanli tyres just recently. To cut a long story short, the back of my car lost traction (and no, I wasn't being a d!ckhead like the cops made me say), and I ended up spinning over a medium strip facing horizontal on the other side of the road across two lanes (incoming traffic). It wasn't wet, but it was about 11.30 at night so mildue or whatever you call it covered the road I'm guessing - it's a slippery corner at the best of times! The tyres themselves had plenty of tread (probably 75+%), they just had NO grip in the wet. I was scared driving it every time it rained/drizzled. U-turns and the whole car would slide - and I don't mean getting the ars3 end out......

I ended up forking out $700+ for a new set of 17s (Ventus K104s) which have made a markable improvement. I'll never get cheap tyres again, no matter what.

ive got nexen tyres on mine and they grip really well and ive never heard of them. im not sure how much they are but they are good i got a wheel and tyre package and didnt ask how much the tyres were individually.

Ahahah Iv had worse. going up a hill and in the wet. the back kicks out due t oil. LOL lo and behold dad is following. SMS 4mins later. I saw you hang it sideways action around that corner. !!

But the falken tyres are ИИИИ now. Although the new SV8 i went for a fang in had Bridgestone SO3's and that ИИИИin had good grip,

Correct on the first count. Light rain, especially after a few days of being dry brings all the oil to the top of the road. Not good, especially on bad tyres. I was in a WRX that was seriously sideways yesterday after the first rain of the day. I didn't even know they got out that far. They normally stick to the road like glue, even cornering at high speed.

As for the AAMI course, well, maybe.

i work in the tyre industry and i sell a particular brand of tyres, but i know some of them are just plain crap... so i dont sell those ones!
i prefer to sell a tyre that holds the road and is going to be safe, but some people want the world and dont want to pay for it!
also some of the cheaper brands are reasonably good...(wanlis arent)

Budget they're not, $180 each is not budget when I could get $99 Hankooks (both of the same size 225/50 R16) that are like glue compared to them, they're a rip off. I'd go as far as to say most budget tyres outperform them, even those savva tyres grip better

I love the Warrigal Rd entrance where you turn right to get onto the freeway.

Always good fun coming round there close to full lock, i used to do it my old ZL Fairlane with completely bald no name tyres on the rears. It just makes it easier to break traction, and throttle control is your friend

I'll stick with my Bridgestone GIIIs thanks... best ИИИИИИИИИ tyre I've ever had. Front set set me back about $180 a corner, back set cost me about $170 a corner (got them cheaper because price came down when I got the back put on).

The tyres it had before were some generic pieces of ИИИИ called "Sumo Racer". Worst tyres ever. There is something very wrong with a stocko EL 6 being able to slip n slide in all forward gears in the dry...

Falken's are ИИИИhouse tyres. The rims on my car came with them and honestly the remoulds that I had on my old 15"s were about as good.

they have worn out very quickly (not the REAR! all four). John_xr6's old man had a pair on his EL XR6 rims and had the same thing. They handle badly, and have terrible grip. Im going to be replacing all four tyres with Kumho 711's soon as I wouldnt even bother driving in the wet with these.

surely falkens have some good tyres in their range, and surely the larger sizes that are marketed as being a performance tyre are ok.

My sister's b/f had those Falkens on his Lancer which he took to a drifting comp at Calder...instead of scrubbing the tyres out from going sideways like most tyres do, huge chunks ripped off them. I know that's not what they're designed for but it still shows their crappy construction.

I've tried Federal 595's and Kuhmo Ecsta's and I found the Federals to be an excellent tyre.

I had a set of pirellis on the old EA, the stuck like glue in the dry, but get em wet? ИИИИ me I had some scary times on those.

Love the Kuhmo Ecsta's havent been able to lock em up and can only chirp them.

I've got the ZE-326s on my EL and I reckon they're great...
