And to think people actually buy it!

One of my colleagues proudly showed me what she bought at Repco a few weeks ago. I didn't have the heart to tell her, I guess the "Once-a-Year" marketing works on some people. Just wish she asked me first.

tell her to go back for an exchange ... and "advise" her on better replacement items for some of those things. At least she picked a couple of OK items. Not ALL bad.

Only two of those products I would be happy to use.

I have a feeling I may end up doing the job for her, so those questionable products can be "saved" for another day.

Is it possible to make some money on weekends cleaning peoples cars?
I am not talking to the professional level with paint correction ect, but just to the standard of your own car using all the types of products mentioned in this thread.
Looking at the state of some of the cars you see in car parks it wouldn't be hard to exceed peoples expectations with a general clean and tidy.
If so what would you charge?
Or is it something to stay away from and not bother?

Juice Polishes and Waxes. Had my Focus professionally detailed prior to Small Ford Sunday, Victoria with these products and subsequently won a Trophy.

I dabbled with that until March/April last year when Covid hit. I am now doing a few to supplement my income. I have everything I need to do it a high standard.

Something to keep in mind would be the time factor. I can wash one of my cars in 1 - 2 hours depending on how I'm feeling. A customer car is generally at the point where it is taking me about 3 - 4 hours. You need to factor that into your pricing.

At this point I'm not sure how much profit I actually make from it, if nothing else it is funding my addiction for detailing products.

I was going to say ... as long as it covers the costs of your products to use on your own cars .... why not.

The interiors probably take longer than the exterior for you though.

I noticed whilst in Repco that in their Home Brand, Eclipse, they have a product called Ceramic Polish.
Upon having a little read I discovered that the name is totally misleading as it is not Ceramic or a Polish but a Hose on / Hose Off SiO2 Product. (Similar to CarPro HydroLite i am assuming.)
The other thing is that it is made in Australia.
So I was wondering if anyone knows who makes their Range?
It might be interesting to find out, and if the stuff is any good, to support local products as the whole range seems to be made locally.
It is a lot easier to get hold of and they would be regularly on special I would assume.

Especially if it is cheap and can be used as a top/sacrificial layer constantly.

I LOVE detailing but HATE vacuuming stubborn carpets. Japanese cars seem to the worst for this.

I bought this drill brush last week for this very issue.

This is the softest available from this supplier but it had no trouble lifting a variety of debris including sand, embedded pet hair and grass fragments.

In general, I firstly vacuumed the bulk of the debris before hitting the stubborn areas with the brush, then going back over with the vac.

I found this tool especially handy for carpet mats, it really made the jobs so much easier. I even used it to clean the pedals.

And this Lilly Brush is a must have for pet owners.

This "brush" is a rubber blade that grabs pet hair, allowing it to be gathered to point and sucked up with the vac.

That is some fine cleaning right there.

Although I have never used one, a lot of people seem to recommend these for carpets as well. They run off an air compressor and blow the stuff up and out of the pile.

There are a lot of copies so some might be better than others.

Cheap enough on a falcon with 2nd hand carpet but this will save me 2 hours! .

Some decent videos out there where it has been used to agitate a shampoo to lift out more inground dirt/mud ... and then an extractor used to lift it all out ... making it look like brand new again (some of the carpets initially looked like you'd have to burn them).

I had money saved and set aside for this, and I will probably claim it as "business expense".

Looking for some options for removing mineral stains from glass.

My TD Cortina is showing some build up on the edges and corners which I'm having problems gently removing without fear of damaging the original rubbers.
The restored cars, windows out, I did with a pretty noxious bathroom cleaner with great results but thats not an option this time.

I'm reading mixed reviews on AutoGlym glass polish. Any other go too's or recommendations?

I have used AutoGlym glass polish and I doubt it would remove water spots and mineral etchings. It's a decent product but would be out of it's depth here.

I would start with a water spot remover first.

Cheers DFB I'll do a bit of reading on them. Compound and elbow grease maybe the first step, I'm a bit hesitant about using a DA around the nearly 50 year old rubbers but if it comes to it I have and old screen and rubber out the back I can play with first.

Is taping the rubbers off before starting an option? Or would that not help the situation?

Yeah I thought of taping it up just wasn't sure if I'd be able to get all the way into the corners with the machine.

All sorted now though, gave the compound idea a go and it worked a treat, cheers.

Did the front windscreen this morning with a toothbrush then the last bits by hand, took an about an hour. I'll work my way around the rest of the car in the coming weeks.

What are you guys using to get carbon stains off the inside of exhaust tips? My x-force exhaust tips are black within a week, and doesn’t wash off easily.

I though about spraying some wheel cleaner in there.

A wheel cleaner should work fine. What product do you have?

For me, I wash the exhaust tips at each wash, using car soap and my wheel cleaning brushes. This prevents carbon building and baking to the surface. I will use a wheel cleaner (Brake Buster) for cars that need more cleaning ability than soap alone.

Depending on the finish after washing, you may also decide to polish them too. I use P21S Polishing soap but a metal polish (ie Autosol) should be fine too.

This product is used while the tips are still wet. Simply wet the sponge, swipe over the polish then go to town. Rinse clean afterwards.
