Angry is it worth buying a newer car ?

hi guys i just turned down a great deal on a BA mk 2 rapid yellow XR6 manual ute with 76 000 kms well a bit over that any way they had the car for sale for 26990 drive away so i bargained them to 25 000 drive away and $ 5000 trade in on my 1997 el futura with 189 000 kms

so i put my deposit down for the car, $ 100 dollars, with a 24 hours cooling off period

any way my mum who buy a car nearly every year and goes into debit , tells me what a ! $@$^^ mistake iam making, so she was so consurned so she ring up 3 of my friend too try and talk me out of the ute because of the financial CRIS, so they talked me out of the deal :-( i so loved that xr6 ute

my question is, is it worth buying a newer car becasue of the cris with money atm

OMG what has the world come to, if you have a good steady job and an income coming in there should be no problem, this financial crisis is a load of cods wollop, if you have the ability to pay the loan or what ever back there wont be a drama

26990? Sounds wildly overpriced to me. BF's go for a lot less than that with less k's. Was there anything in particular with this BA that made it a great deal?

However, I was offered $5k on a EF Ghia almost 10 years ago, I'd be extatic with your trade.

The real reason I replied is.. what's a cris?

Did you even do any research before going out to buy?

Heres a Turbo XR6 Ute with less mileage for $23k, and thats before any bargaining or trades.

Less kms for $22k

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...gions&__Nne=20

I wouldnt pay any more than about $15-$17k for a BA XR6 non turbo Ute, and it would have to be perfect

Hey, dont bother with a BA XR6 any model for anything over $15 000 with that many Km's! It so isnt worth it!

There are millions of BA's and BF's out there with so much less km's. Buy a BF!

On the 'financial crisis' front. If your Mum thinks your nuts buying a used car, I might need to be institutionalised because Im buying a house. Hehehe!

Really, if your good at saving and smart with your cash, you should have no problem saving enough for any XR. Or enough to pay back a loan, no matter what job you hold.

Oh, and my advise on where to get a decent deal... try an Orix dealer. I bought my car there and they were better than any delaers Ive ever come across (I used to help manage a fleet in my organisation)! They dont really have a bottom line on their cars. And if work needs doing on any of them, they dont care about the cost of repairs either. Win - Win in my books. Just prepare to haggle a little.

Anyway good luck!!

Regardless of the car, the finances may bite you if you over commit.

Do you have the $20k?

If not how long do you need to finance it for to be able to afford the payments?

If the time is more than two years then in the current financial climate you really can't afford to buy it.

Hard decision I know but life is a bit rickerty and unpredictable at the moment and the smart thing is to cover your bum.

If you stitch yourself up for 4, 5, 6 or 7 years on an old car you may end up with a dead car that you still owe money on and/or a crap credit rating.

The "crisis" will either disappear quickly like the last couple or it will not. This time next year we will have a better idea and if it clears up you will be in a better position to buy and if it does not and you have saved what you would have been paying in payments then as the price of cars will go through the floor tou will get the same or a better vehicle for less money.

Its becoming a good time to finance a car...rates are coming down , not only on home loans but also personal loans and credit cards....Plus its a win win for you because used BA XR's a dime a dozen these days it seems

Don't go in excess of 5 years though as you'll end up with an old car you still own money on...not wise, especially if you wanna upgrade...If possible do 3 years or less as the above post said.

Those kms on a 2005 BA Mk 2 ain't high...Alright, my car's a Jan 2005 with 18,000 kms on it but that's rare as hens teeth and I paid a premium because of it.

Shop around for finance and the car as you could do better than that.

The economic crisis will only be a problem to you if you have a job you could end up losing because of it.

Ouch, thats one expensive ute even by our (Perth) standards

As above, Turbo's are going for a few k less with fewer km's !

Didn't do your research ? Your lucky you only lost $100, much better then actually having brought it

Easy actually ... if you think you can afford it and the repayments, buy it! If you think its stretching things, dont. Financial crisis or not ....

Whether its over priced or not isnt the issue, its a matter of whether you want it and can afford it.

You did the right thing not buying it I reckon.

I sold my BA11 XR6T T56 ute Rapid with Momo SW, 18" rims, new dunlops ($470 each) hardlid, TWO front airbags, full serivce history on Mobil 1 since 1500klm, sports leather etc 28000klm for $26000 in Feb 2007.

So 18 months ago and way less k's and more options incl rare pass air bag (in utes)

My FG XR6T Ute will be for sale in September 09. it will be cheap too. Start saving and in meantime you will get better idea of economy etc. Theres nothing wrong with an EL in the meantime.

Dude, when you get you $100 back go buy your mum some flowers and a thank you card....

You would have paid over 10K too much....I bought my BA XR6 sedan with leather and premium sound 1 year ago with 70K on the clock for $16K from a dealer.

Lesson learnt don't, impulse buy!

Yep, impulse buying and finance companies ready to throw money around.. a recipe for disaster, especially for those casually employed.
Save your money and pay cash for your "dream car", or at the very least save the majority of the purchase price first.., and do you homework on market values!!!

One thing to consider...

You have a deposit. Will you have any savings left over? I'd aim to have 3-6mths of payments sitting in the bank account. You could find you get fewer shifts, layed off etc. Most people get into trouble because they assume their financial situation cant change.

You can buy FG XR6 Utes for 28,000. Very lucky you didn't purchase this highly expensive BA.

Just a question?

If the economy does turn to crap (or moves to a crappier position?) and people start selling off their cars at cheaper prices do you think they will have skipped on their maintenance?

i.e. Maintenance in good financial times would be a good oil changed regularly now it may be a cheaper oil changed less often. Sell the car just before the big $$$ maintenance items need fixing (a mate spent $3000 in sensors and diagnostic check on his E39 BMW 5 series then sold it 3 months later). Crash repairs done on the cheap (another friend bought a “bargain” BMW 3 series that looked okay at first glance and turned out to be a death trap 6 months later). If someone is up to their neck financially and has had to sell their car do you think they would have kept on top of the day to day items in the 3 to 6 months prior to selling it?

I’ve been tossing up about a new car or wait a bit and get a bargain second hander. Either way I can see myself hanging on to this car for at least 10 years. At the moment I’d rather owe money and have a new car that I know the history and maintenance of than wind up with a car that has some financial or mechanical surprises hidden in it.
