Am I driving a death trap??

I have a AU2 one tonner, I work as a courier, hence I often carry loads of 800 kgs to 1 tonne.

Had the car for foour months. It has 17 inch XR8 rims on it....

I only noticed the other day the tyres are only rated to 650kg max!

Question, can the XR rims take the weight? Qhat tyres SHOULD I really have?

I shudder to think how many times its been way overloaded for the given tyres on it....

Fast advice appreciated!

just put the old rims on the back :P

Im not sure what the rims are stamped at but an educated guess tells me 690kg, they need to be 850kg at least to be legal. You say the tyres at 650kg, they need to be 850kg/102 rating to comply with the tyre placard. You can get legal 17s rims and tyres depending what state you are in. But if you are carrying that load constantly im not sure how safe it would be...

I dont have the standard rims. Came with the XR ones. Im more worried about the tyres than the rims.

The rear axle is 1700kg rating so its 850kg per tyre

the Xr rims are not rated for one tonne.

the one tonners came with a completely different mag, which is a lot heavier and a lot stronger, plus uses a tyres that are rated for 1t.

the xr rims or other alloys, which are not rated to those capacities can crack under stress in excess of their load limit, tyres can deflate or wear out quickly or get damaged if overloaded

my suggestion, change to rims rated to your loading capacity, or dont load 1t

yes. hmmm 650 per tyre or total is indeed the question.

I would have done 50 plus at least medium to long distance trips at well over 650 kgs total weight...

you will more than likely need 15 or 16" rims to get a decent priced tyre rated to that load

also lately in wa they have been advertising about overloading utes. apparently your insurance company can also drop your insurance if you are overloaded and have an accident

Not exactly rocket science is it?

Tyre says 650kg. That means thats the weight that one tyre should be able to take. You should have two tyres on your axle (if you dont, stop reading this and go find the missing one) that means 650 x 2 = 1300kgs for both tyres on one axle.

Or, if you want to get into the really heady hi-tech stuff, 2600kg's for all four wheels.

no its not rocket science, but I Know SFA bout this stuff. Guess the tyres are ok, Ill do some research and see what the rims are supposed to be loaded to max. thanks

^^yes, that is true, but the rear axle of au one tonners has a load rating of 1700kg, which means the tyres have to support this

The one tonner rating for the rear axle is actually 1700kg
