i've added octane booster today since filling up with the vortex to see if that helps. i know it sounds strange but mine really seems to go harder on optimax.

where does Optimax Extreme fit in here - one level up again ? who uses it ?

Have tried a few tanks of it, not sure if its any better in the V8, maybe the ethenolk has cleaned out my fuel system its smoother, but I used more than Std Optimax !

I have been useing E10 for over 12months now. All my cars (96 Camry, AU Fairmont, BA Xr8) run better on it.. and just to compare how they running I sometimes put Vortex or Optimax into the tank.. The car never seem to run a well on normal 95/98 fuels...

Best of all, today I payed 1.04 for E10 98.... E10 95 was .96c ltr

I paid 96 cents for regular unleaded today. As was shown on A.C.A or one of these current affair shows it does not pay to put premium unleaded in, the returns for the price is not worth it. Not only that the xr6 is a factory/standard engine so no benefit really, i dont speed or take off from the lights like a hoon, so no reason to use the premium. However, once a month i do put about $30.00 dollars in it and that is due to runs to either esk or laidley.

on the fuel subject i run any of the 98 ron rated fuels.they all seem to run very simalar.although i have found you don't seem to get the same econemy out of the ethinol added fuels my car tends to use a bit more when running them..

Need more than one option....

LPG for the EL. A splash of unleaded every now and then.
Diesel for the Peugeot.
98RON (BP Ultimate) for the XE whenever we need some, plus additive.

BBQ Fuel (tm) all the way! i do 150kms a day, and fill up twice a week, costs me $50-60/wk on gas!, otherwise it would cost me round $130/wk on regular!!! The EA that i drive has just clocked 420,000 kms not worth anything else but BBQ fuel!!!

Regular fuel for me, two things why..

1. I aint paying the extra money for premium when...
2. The difference it makes isnt noticable!! And if it is it's very marginal.

You're lucky , you have 2 things in you're car .
1. low comp ratio.
2. a computer to retard the timing when it detonates.

I made the mistake of putting regular in my XC ute a few years ago , the thing ran like a bag of cr@p and nearly stalled every time I stopped .
I allways put the good stuff in the coupe ,its better to be safe than sorry.

Well, an XC would have been designed to run on Leaded Petrol, which if I remember correctly, was 98RON. Of course dropping to 91RON ULP would make it run like crap. :P
That is the reason we put 98RON in the XE, as that is the octane level it was designed for.

Well ends up being about the same as fuel because you get jack all km`s out of it so sucked in? Not really

OK ... show me a petrol powered Falcon that can travel 750-800km for $40 (or a bit less in some cases).

I'd be broke if I was using normal unleaded with the amount of kays I do a week.

I travel ~500kms on $30 of LPG in the EL. $30 of petrol would probably be just under half a tank of petrol. Would like to be able to travel ~500kms on half a tank of petrol... :

My family car is a dedicated gas BA Futura, full size family car with the running costs of a Corolla, however my Clevo powered XC (351) runs on unleaded with a Moreys top end additive.
Used to ping at first but OK now, when I get the engine redone I'll have the heads mofified properly, and its on gas too.
Anyone got some info on going straight gas, whats involved, cost etc???

Having a jap car, my mechanic advised me to use premium unleaded as my base fuel, with regular IF there is no other choice. If I chip it I intend on using 98ron all the time. Bugger if Im in remote areas. :(

Always ran mine on BP Ultimate but thought I'd give Caltex Vortex98 a go. Best thing I ever did. It has fixed up my idle problems and my hot start problems. Also seems to make the car a smoother beast.

VPower Racing is 100Octane 5% ethanol, while BP Ultimate is 98 Octane, just one thing you may want to know before changing over.

I clicked LPG but I'm a dualie and I will only run 98 octane juice when I'm on petrol
