Default Re: Covid 19 -

It's been awhile since I had a detailed look at the USofA so I thought it might be a good time.
The National CMR there is 1.082% or about 6x worse than ours but there has clearly been some inconsistency in their reporting. The top 10 States for case numbers make up a little over half the total cases and more than half the total deaths but there are wide inconsistencies across them so individual state CMR probably isn't a good indicator and nor are cases per 100k of population given the under-reporting of cases.

What we can compare realistically, are the deaths per 100k of population where the National average is 356.51 so States that are significantly different can be identified.

At the low end (< 200 / 100k) are:
North Carolina - 128.46
Hawaii - 145.96
Vermont - 147.92
Utah - 165.69; and
DC - 198.93.

At the high end (> 450 / 100k) are:
Mississippi - 450.75
Arizona - 457.74; and
West Virginia - 463.82

They also break down their cases by some demographic groups and the worst group for deaths / 100k is the Navajo Nation with 618.40 although I suspect the military Veterans would rank high as well given their 2.768% CMR and those numbers are well documented.

As most States have now stopped individual reporting except for the National figures which will only be available monthly, there will be no State breakdown.

In 2023; Australia recorded 612,904 cases and 7,303 deaths for a CMR of 1.192% or about 10 times what it was in 2022 but most likely because the case numbers are significantly under reported. To put that in perspective, that’s more deaths than the last 5 years road deaths combined.

The movement in global case numbers should be viewed with the consideration that 88 of the 229 countries to have reported cases are no longer reporting including some that had significant case numbers like Austria, Belarus, Costa Rica, Cuba, Denmark, DPRK, France, Georgia, Greece, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and South Korea.
For those who think it's now all over, the last quarter has still shown some countries with significant case numbers and/or deaths per 100k of population, including Australia and New Zealand:
