My previous cars have been normally the usual white/black/silver etc

but these last 2 were just based on a complete look i was after. I have seen alot of GTR's in blue with gold rims and when I purchased my BF ute i got shockwave as i thought i could get that same good rim/paint combo these gtrs had.

When I got my FG i ONLY wanted mystic. If i couldnt find one i wasnt buying a new car. The colour change in the day/night is amazing really captures peoples attention

People feel....safe in bland coloured cars. And i'm not talking about ANCAP safe, but introvert safe. Not everyone wants a boy racer coloured car.

My cars have mostly been monochrome - shades of black, grey and silver. That is the way I like my cars.

I find on the right car, silver can look very classy. On the EA, I've removed moulds, badges etc. just to really make best use of the silver paint.

As for my AU being white... it was cheap :P

Default Re: Why does everyone like 'bland' coloured cars?

Hi Guys... As Chris said.. My Wagon is in Ego! I love the colour and just had to have it... for this car ! When it's clean and glistenning in the sun... the pearlecent flake reflects in all sorts of colours.... blue, green, silver, purple, etc.. making the dark grey a little bit more "exciting" !!
I've had cars in white, off white, green, blue, orange, brown, grey (even beige! ) before.... I chose them because I thought that's what looked best on "that" car, at the time!
Colour is a very personal choice... but I believe it depends on what it's going on that matters more! For instance... I love that bright orange on the XR5T Focus... not sure it would look as good on a stock BA/F Fairlane/LTD!!???
Pottery Beige doesn't look too bad on the XA GT with the black accents... but not sure it would have quite the same effect on a plain BA GT !!??
My NL Fairlane is in Cinnamon... I loved it when I first saw it 14yrs ago... and still do (looks great with the Cappuccino interior... not with Grey)
IMO.. silvers and greys still look great on luxury cars which have a more "staid" appearance (like Mercs and Rollers)... and bright colours look great on smaller cars & sporty cars!
Colours like white, red, black, etc.. can look good on most cars... and are the most popular/common colours on our roads!
colour can also envoke a feeling of attitude !!?? For instance... The Mad Max XB Coupe looks menacing and tough in it's gloss/flat black combo... not sure we would all love it as much as we do if it was, say.. metallic green with gold accents & chrome highlights !!???

I reckon people go for the "safe" conservative option when it comes to colours. Also the colour range offered by Ford at the moment reflects this and as a result is as boring as batshyte. Not one "hero" colour. Last decent colours were Octane and Breeze from BF2 to early FG.

Look at the old skool cars, people today go ape over the really outlandish colours such as Wild Plum, Wild Violet, Lime Glaze etc and these cars attract a premium. When new, a lot of people probably baulked at these colours (even though they loved them) and went more conservative. Maybe some guys didn't go through with Wild Plum because they didn't want their mates taking the **** out of them for driving a Pink car.

Same for newer stuff. Rapid in the BA/BF range, particularly on FPV's is the best colour they had in the "new age" but we're awash with about 48 different shades of Silver and Grey.

The coolest colour range was definately in the '70's and around 2005/6.

I agree Mystic is such a classy and interesting colour. Blueprint was the last Ford colour that really appealed although the new Kinetic blue is pretty good.

I chose Edge for my SC GT-P as there was a 6 month wait for one in Seduce, waiting 6 days for it to be shipped to my local dealer was bad enough, waiting 6 months for a new SC GT-P..., that's simply not humanly possible.

I guess really different cars look good in different colours.

Some cars look awful in some colours, others look good.

Also depends on the intended 'look' of the car!

Some cars look good in 'dull' colours, such as greys, blacks, whites and silvers, others look great. I find these sorts of colours dead boring on most Mazdas, Toyotas, Nissans, etc... But I love white on our AUII wagon. I wouldn't have it any other way!
Another reason I like the white is that it shows red dirt very well :P Good for driving on our dirt roads after rain.

I'm a massive fan of F series trucks, and would love to one day get my hands on a 7.3L F250 dual cab. I've seen them in all kinds of colours, but I honestly can't say any of them suit the truck as well as the metallic red, the colour my uncle also agreed was better when he bought his in 05.
The silvers, whites, blacks greys just don't do it for me, but that red just looks fantastic.

Here's the red F-truck, and a silver one...

Ego is hardly a bland colour.

That moment when you have freshly cleaned it, and the sun hits the paint and it just sparkles is a great feeling!

white , black and silver are the cheapest paint codes available. Prestige colours are just that. Henry Ford suggested that
"Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black."
. Those days are gone. Silver and white are the new only colours

I like 'bland' colours, especially a nice VK in their token 'blue'.

I also like my colour shifting jiggymewhatsit, many shades of blue depending on the light:

Those 1st gen Super Duties are getting very dated now, the design goes back nearly 15 years to 1998. Think AU Falcon era! Very utilitarian inside. The current 3rd gen 2013 Super Duty trucks are light years ahead in every area:

You have a point... to a point...

The interior design I agree is becoming dated in the older trucks, but because of that you're less likely to be worried about it getting dirty and such. I don't mind anyhow. The interior is extremely comfortable though, and the long wheelbase means a great ride! (love towering over everything too :P)

The outside design, I personally think the older trucks look far tougher, and even, bigger than the new ones. Something about the new front design makes the front look narrower, and the truck smaller.

Then there's the engine. The new 6.7 to me, is just too damn refined and quiet! It sounds almost like the Toyota LC200s 5.4 diesel, which half of the time doesn't.
I love the noise of the 7.3, that diesel V8 sound, and the turbo whine, and then if you give it a bootful, you get a fantastic V8 sound. It's an amazing sound. Its the big feature of the truck! Without that sound, for me it just ain't the same.
The 6.7 does have something I like though, MOAR POWAAAAAARRRRH!

What colour Shirts do you wear?
In public I see a lot of White, black, greys, blue and a few reds, yellows, and greens.

For people who have weatherboard houses what colour is it painted?
Bright ornage? Hot pink? Or is it a shade of grey?

I'd say there is many of the same reasons why people buy 'bland' cars, clothes and house paint.

It's still hard to believe that the base model XLs still only come with wind-up windows, no CD player, and no cruise. For $30k.. (that's Lexus money in the US), I guess fleets aren't too fussy over there.

Bland is for when you don't want to attract the wrong kind of attention when you are driving a weapon:

Out there colours are for when the car is 100% engineered and you know it doesn't matter who looks at it:

funny how things change....

us with years on the clock can remember when an allover colour was "base model"
you know.. "Belmont" (not Kingswood) " base Falcon"( not 500) " base Valiant "(not Ranger)
it was the multi-colours or metallics that was upper market and with extra chrome trim to set it off (WOW!)
not forgetting Vynal Tops either!
Black ,Tan, White,(rare) even Paisley(even rarer(Chrysler by Chrysler))
the more you spent ,the more you got.

the shoe is on the other foot now!!
