I thought you’d left. Interesting how you didn’t bother acknowledging the two posts offering suggestions as to why the An-225 is a relevant topic to this thread.

In other news, seems the World Taekwondo organisation has stripped Putin of his black belt. This might seem trivial, but martial arts is something Putin apparently takes very seriously, so it would actually be quite a blow to his personal pride I reckon.

why do you want it closed? Because some people aren't mature enough to debate a catastrophe

Why should the ones that are contributing maturely be punished?

Leave the thread open and delete the posts by people who aren't being mature

This unprovoked attack on Ukraine could be the start of something much bigger and we need to talk about it - making a mockery of stuff not related is just childish, making a mockery of the invasion is just childish - this is the stuff history is made of and we need to discuss it

EU has now banned ALL Russian aircraft from EU airspace.24hr Flight radar is very interesting to watch. It is going to get to a stage were all Russian aircraft are going to be going nowhere.

Makes it hard when religious discussion is also banned. Those who study the world's oldest book are not shocked by what is happening.

The talk of nuclear tells me that Putin under-estimated the Ukraine push back

It is scary **** when you have a world leader threatening nuclear attacks - he needs to be taken out

In case anyone is wondering this is what a dictatorship looks like

Putin getting nuclear ready has nothing to do with Ukraine, they don't have any nuclear weapons.

Sounds to me like Putin feels a nuclear threat from NATO.

Nothing to do with dictatorship...and suggesting he be assasinated, that will definitely start a nuclear fest.

Putin said recently that they have no reservations using nuclear weapons as a first strike attack.

Previously (the last 60 years) they use to say they would only use it if they were used on them first.

We should be worried about this fact.

RT has gone offline on Foxtel. I think there has been a ban on all media sites owned by Russia. Strange, cos 99% of the commentators on there seem to be Americans.

The **** is unhinged, he could start ordering them to be sent anywhere and everywhere.
Do you think he's currently thinking rationally?

All we can hope is that if he does give he order that the people under him are insubordinate.

Peace talk brokered by Belarus? Ukraine and Russian delegates to meet at the Belarus border. Hopefully something can be struck. AFF armchair analyst thinks maybe the Russians seize control of the east, Kiev to remain neutral and to give the Russian a buffer between "the west" and their border. It does not appear the Russians want to annihilate Ukraine, otherwise Kiev would have been flattened already? Sticking point might be the Ukraine president, the Russians think he is a puppet of the US and want him gone. He won't go.

If a deal is struck, will all the sanctions and boycotts remain in place?

I find it interesting that countries can just freeze billions in assets of people who have connections with the Russian president, even though they had no involvement in any decisions or actions.

It's a possibility that they occupy all lands east of The Dnieper and create a "friendly" Ukraine, a new East Germany.

That's the point I guess - annoy and inconvenience people so that they apply pressure to Putin to give it away. A lot of his power base comes from the continuing support of these oligarchs.

I heard a US spokesperson this morning, criticising Putin for "manufacturing threats that don't exist in order to justify further aggression".

Isn't that exactly what we (USA, UK and Australia and a couple of other deputy sheriff wannabes) did post 9-11 when we wanted to attack Iraq? Iraq was a long, long way away from the countries that attacked it and represented absolutely zero threat to them.

Sorry, but I can't help pointing out western hypocrisy. We pretend that we are different but we are just the same.

The National Bank of Ukraine has set up accounts to allow the world to directly support the Ukrainian Army:
https://bank.gov.ua/en/news/all/nats...potrebi-armiyi

Australians can make donations via the Reserve Bank of Australia:
BSB: 092002
a/c: 817532

I have confirmed with the Reserve Bank that these details are correct and legitimate.

And no, nobody can guarantee what they'll spend it on, could be hiring hookers for all we know. Not demanding anybody contribute, so keep your asinine comments to yourself.
I imagine that there will also be plenty of charities we'll be able to donate to, to help with refugees, etc.

It’s the different vowel set. If it’s spelt “Kiev” some might unknowingly rhyme the i with “eye”. Like Americans talking about “see my trailers”.

Yes I saw that, what a shame, such a spectacular plane, but in the scheme of things people are losing their lives and homes, pales into insignificance.

true , tho it just seemed interesting that they would make the effort to destroy something thats out of the way and in its current state unusable or repairable to be used (not saying its completely)

Kiev is Russian and use it as a way of still claiming that it's their city and Kyiv is Ukrainian. Also calling it "The Ukraine" is Russia's way of still claiming it as a territory of Russia, where Ukrainians just call it Ukraine, as in a counrty.

It's like the Russians use it as a way of torment.

I hope I explained that clearly, I do it better in my head than in my typing...lol.

i have been on that plane (or one exactly like it), it was at the Melbourne airshow one year and I was there on the trade day with Boeing. The russians took us in and showed us around.
All analogue dials, no plastics or teflon...wax cotton covered insulation in the wiring. It was full of fuel and they were all chain smoking inside, Avalon is smoke free...LOL

I was there too, sometime in 1990, but the plane was an AN-124. AFAIK, it was being used to cart bits and pieces to Antarctica and was stationed at Melbourne airport for quite some time. I know this because I could see it from my lounge room window.
I also had a Russian friend whose parents worked at the airport, and were well tied in with the Russian community and church, and through that he claimed he flew to Antarctica onboard the 124, which I heard later on crashed there.

P.S. Did you get a free Twix bar?

Nah..it was a different year...I got a hand made model aircraft engine from Leningrad with a unique serial number...still got it.
