there is no reason a plumb back BOV cant flow enough for 36x rwkw. None at all.

AshMan, what's your problem? Why are you so defensive? I don't care if mine is considered rice, I don't take offence to being called rice.
Oh and can you tell me exactly the legistlation where it states that atmosphere BOV is illegal?
The EPA have viewed my vehicle in December last year!

Possible, but my old BOV caused damage, to overkill is the best prevention. Also Atmosphere draws crowds too!

Now you're comparing new cars to 2nd hand ones, that isn't very fair. If you want to do that, an XD with a worked 351C/auto will run quicker and cost less anyway.

The laws are based on two properties.

#1 if your car is MAF sensored and has the snesor before the BOV. If it vents to atmosphere your sensor reads incorrectly and emmissiions are effected.

#2 if its MAP or Alpha-N the regulation has to do with noise/filter oil or the like.

A regulation check would be the way to check 100% as im just speculating.

Back in the olden days, "Rice Burners" where used to label any of the cars to come out of Japan...

...then they started kicking our ИИИИ in touring car racing with the Skyline GTR, and the TT Supra. Its now used to bag the sh i t out of cars that are somewhat overdone in the looks department and underdone in the grunt department.

Sadly, it seems there are more riced-up domestics than imports these days.

from my understanding the term rice comes from rice burner and a rice burner would most likely come from some of our asian neigbours were our rice also comes from!!!!

hmm, what ИИИИes me off if when people look at my brothers car and say that the rims, big exhaouhst, lowering, pod filter on a laser are pure rice and that he should be shot for doing it. not long after they find out that it in fact is a awd tx3 turbo laser muahahaha. but yer, lots of people here say jap cars are rice but in reality they are more of a bang for your buck. example, my bros tx3 is made by mazda (fords version of 323 familia gtx) now yeah it only runs 15.3 in stock form and my el is very close to it but through hills or any kind of twisty stuff hes miles ahead of me and with the 3" ehaoust he leaves me a fair bit behind. in fact most imports do this, the money you pay for imports and modify em cannot be spent exact way on any average ford/holden and either way imports will allways be more responsive and handle better. say what you want, i only bought my el for daily purposes and cruising arround, as soon as i got enough money saved up im moving on to a import.

also, if there is a modified daewoo, hyundai or any other korean car its IS classified as rice because these cars are not meant to be modified and look like ИИИИ modified or not.

my final verdict on rice: anything korean made and stickers/vynils on cars or oversized bodykits that dont suit the car entirely.

I like big wings and I can not lie,
You other brothers cant deny,
That when a celica drives in with an oversized wing
And a round neon tip shining in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up tough
Cuz you notice that bumper was stuffed
Deep in the paint she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My Eseries folks tried to warn me
But that Rice you got
"Make Me so horney"
Ooh, Neons of sin,
You say you wanna get in my eseriez
Well use me, use me, cuz you aint that average crusier,

So Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah)
Has your falcon got the rice? (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that boring bonnet
Baby got Rice.... Baby got rice...

(whoa its 1:30am and im fricken bored!)

If it is to do noise, as long as the bov does not excide 90db standing 1m away, at 3200rpm there is no problem under the epa act.

Ok, after reading all this I rang thr RTA and asked what the deal with BOV are.
1. All Plumb back BOV are leagal
2. All Atmospheric BOV are leagal providing that the car can meet a IM240 test where they measure HC, NOx, CO & CO2 gases.
3. A cop or an EPA officer can not fine you for having a BOV they can request that you have a IM240 test done on your car. That is all!
