Camry Hybrid should last a long time. The petrol engine in it runs at a pretty constant range as it uses low down electric torque to help move it off the line - and extra electric power at the top end.

A Falcon auto transmission has around 1,200 moving parts but the Camry has a planetary gearset which has 9 moving parts.

Plus ongoing brake pads and rotor maintenance is very good as the regen does a lot of the braking.

The Falcon doesn't have a big battery in it though! So swings and roundabouts maybe? But even then it's supposed to be pretty reliable too.

DOT allowed 100 of them in Perth.

They're a crap car.

2000kg, on 278mm front discs and rear drums.

Even the Indians complain about the braking.

I would probably die in one on the first night.

As a passenger, does it really matter? I would prefer a 2nd class ride to a 1st class walk any day of the week.

I also don't really care, so long as there is a taxi at the rank when you need one!

I can't see them taking off in Australia. Getting an Indian into a non-Toyota is one hell of a mission.

I forgot to mention... that 2,000kg... on crap brakes... rides on 175 tyres.

Even a standard Falcon has 205 tyres.

Do not be in front of one of those London taxis in wet conditions.

Since when did Indian taxi drivers have so much power. If they want a job they should be happy with the car they are given.

The only driver who enjoyed his job was a retired millionaire who made his wealth in real estate and enjoyed driving and drove whenever he felt like it

In Perth, in my experience, Camry Hybrids are rather prevalent, although there are still plenty of FG and FGII Falcons (and some BFIIIs going around too). Priuses are relatively rare, thankfully. I have not yet seen an FGX taxi but I'm sure there will be a few.

Wow, MD? I've only seen MCs as taxis so far, and they are few and far between.

One of the first ever FGXs I saw was a taxi after its launch so still a little popular

I always though they should of kept building the BFIII wagon but updated with 6 speed auto for fleets and taxis.

The taxi industry in Perth at the moment is completely stuffed. I've got three taxis, and can't get regularly drivers.

At the moment in Perth there are more taxis than there are drivers.

I was going to sell one taxi, but a previous night driver came back last night. Dunno.

Personally, I'm going to go drive buses. Guaranteed income there. Driving a taxi in Perth at the moment is all about poverty and misery.

If you're ever on the northern outskirts of Melbourne, especially heading out to the airport or into the city from there, you NEED to stop by here:

Would you consider getting into chauffeur cars? Or just as bad?

Cab owners used to retrofit BW 3 speeds to keep costs down. It became an approved swap. What would they think of a six speeder?

Nah, it's all stuffed here in Perth.

No-ones making money out of anything in transport right now.

I hate Uber, so at least it's good to see on Uber forums that they're all whinging constantly about how little they're making.

I can't get regular drivers for my taxis.

One thing that I will try is to set up a Toyota hybrid as an SCV (ie Small Charter Vehicle). As that will be legally licenced for carrying paying passengers, it would be legal for using for Uber.

I'll buy either a Prius or Camry Hybrid, set it up as an SCV and see if I can lease it out.

From a consumer point of view, the range of choice is by far the best that it's ever been. However, those same consumers are also complaining that drivers (both Uber and taxi) don't know what they're doing.

Until they reach their age limit and need replacing.

I hate Toyotas, but that's the next generation of taxi.
