The rental and taxi market wouldn't touch the Ecoboost Territory with a 10 foot pole. As for fleets, fleets overwhelmingly buy diesel Captivas and Mondeos over the 4 cylinder petrol versions, even though the petrol engine is cheaper. Diesel is the right strategy for Territory.

looks like the twin turbo smaller capacity engines have good ecconomy
in the Jetta range yoiu choose between a 1.4L twin turbo a 2L turbo and the 2L TDI. I see you point comparing the 1.4L and the TDI but im betting the 2L turbo would be the nicest to drive it gets peak torque at 1700 RPM. & its 280NM plus ecconmy is not too bad.

Petrol is quieter (especially with turbo) and has a larger powerband.
Deliver a petrol with low down torque and ecconmy and you have the best of both worlds
First time for Ford, but FIAT and VW have been doing it for years.....

Yes got that, see my above post. the VW TSI engine looks like a good alternative to the diesel. more powerful but no performance engine with low RPM response (ps ive never driven one just looking at specs)

Im not anti diesel, but I think Petrol engine technology is taking a new turn.

It's not just the DI Turbo, that's the easy off the shelf bit. It's the careful
combination of parts and the software that drives it and makes it work.

That's the difference.

As technology moves along, Petrol would ultimately provide better effciancy then diesel (at least in road cars/small engines). Having control of the way the fuel is burn (spark etc) is a great advantage.

An interesting point is that diesel passanger cars are in decline...due to the development of engines like the EcoBoost. In europe, the likes of BMW are gearing up towards small capacity turbo petrol engines, and people are buying them...

However, a car like the territory is bound to be used to tow things, and go on some (comparitvely) rougher grades terrain (hills etc) then the falcon, this is where having the Diesel is an advantage...

So, i think ford have done the clever thing with the two models.

Why would you buy a ecoboost 2 petrol when the diesel is available?
Dosen't make any sense.

The Ecoboost only makes sense as an I-6 RWD replacement, it would probably get around 8.5 to 9.0 l/100 km,
I doubt Ford could afford the double whammy of Ecoboost development costs on top of more lost I-6 sales.

With diesel it could go in ute and sedan, Ecoboost is a waste of time as long as the I6 is around.

Fixed.

Having driven the EcoBoost, I know I'd choose the EcoBoost over the six any day.

You'd just about be the only one, the buying public have voted and the I6 is a winner by a massive margin. Ecoboost has barely even registered. If anything I6 builds have actually improved a little since Ecoboost has come on stream.

Anyone who thinks the Ecoboost could replace the I6 in the world of large car buyers is very wrong, the sales figures prove it.

It might be the better option, but buyers don't want it. Or is that because Ford did nothing to market and sell its advantages?
