LOL love some of the replies when falcon forums gets a question on progress. General consensus is known before reading. Thread title should be:

"How many gears is too many? Why, any more that the current Falcon has of course!!"

Landau love how anything more than a M5 or A4 is overkill... I can't understand people who are so afraid of progress.. Bring it on and if falcon ever gets the tech then GREAT!

I have a C4 (three speed auto for those who don't know) in a 65 mustang, and a ZF 6 speed in a G6ET. The ZF is always in the right gear when you stand on it which makes driving more lazy. The C4 will pull away in top gear easily and is not prone to kickdown unless you plant the right foot, but it seems to be easier to select gears and drive it 'manually' when doing something more spirited.

I don't thnk people are afraid of the progress. From my point of view I don't want to pay for tech that is useless. A 6 speed manual is about how many cogs are useable in a manual, 4 gears to 1:1 and then 2 overdrive gears. An auto on the other hand would probably do well with 8. 5 or 6 gears to 1:1 and then 2 or 3 overdrive gears.

How about a c4 auto with a gearvendors overdrive unit? In auto it has four gears with an overdrive on top or you can drive it manually which gives you six gears.

They are not a cheap unit, and it really isn't necessary unless you shorten up the diff gears for drag racing.

You're right they are not necessary or cheap but I cannot agree with the need to shorten the the diff gears. I have one and it is calculated to run the engine at about 2200 revs at freeway speeds in overdrive using a 3.08 diff ratio and 26 inch tall tyres. It is a .75 overdrive thus giving good economy on long runs and I still have five lower gears left so that I can be in the right gear when ever necessary for steep inclines etc. Just my opinion but I like it!
