Any way we look at it its going to be a business proposition that' how ford see it and that's how they have seen it for the last performance ford was released. The days of beating the opposition in the performance market ended in 77/78 era.Lets just be happy for what they release and move on to the next phase of Ford products in oz

Agreed, Ford are very good at being short sighted and failing to recognise a few dollars invested in the right place can reap thousands, and make the difference between a run-away best seller and a sales dud. (eg how they stuck to a pathetic single exhaust outlet and crap small brakes on previous XR8s). Notwithstanding that, I doubt that they would be incompetent enough to cut corners in critical areas and put the crap FG XR8 & GS 322/303mm brakes on the final XR8 - when this will assume the mantle of the Ford Halo car. They may as well not bother.

On that note, it will be interesting to see if any of the R-Spec chassis finds its way into the new XR8.

No, the NSW HWP specifications were written around what Holden was supplying and Ford had to meet those specs or lose the contract.

Got nothing to do with going faster. I wouldn't be surprised if an FH XR8 with GT spec running gear is faster than an FG GT actually.

It's about whats been said in this thread, ie 'but it doesn't have a GT badge'. Throw the badge on the FH XR8 and it becomes a GT, despite nothing else changing.

Seriously though, I'm sure Ford toyed with many ideas for the GT/XR8/GS and more than likely, they took the path that's going to make the most $$'s and pave the way for the future -

Not worth spend $$'s on a new body kit, interior etc for a limited life GT that's a slow seller.

GT chassis may need upgrading if more KW's are extracted which won't happen, buyers typical want more power.

Would be odd if they had a FH Falcon GT selling for $70K then introduce a Mustang GT for much less.

Easier/cheaper to dolly up the FG GT and unload them as the last of the GT's for those that want the badge then shut off supply well before the FH is introduced, thereby softening the GT buyers for the FH XR8 with GT running gear (I suspect it will be watered down though) which will be a volume seller,
then introduce the Mustang GT for around 50K alongside the XR8.

All you old boys who think the new era GTs are rubbish because they didint race them at bathurst have your head in the sand. The GT badge does sell cars. They are collectors items, they will appreciate.

On the contrary, the FG XR8 was evaluated at Goulbourn for the NSW HWP and failed the brake high speed brake tests - and yes, this would have involved comparative tests with the SS. This also precluded the XR6T as they shared the same pathetic 322/303mm brake pkg. It was a thorough evaluation, and the (green) evaluation XR8 was auctioned with nearly 40,000Klms.

The FG saw a reduction of brake performance over the BF (down from 328mm rears to 303mm) for both the XR8 & XR6T.

If Ford had failed to compromise and not fitted the Brembo Pkg (after the XR8 was discontinued) - there would be no FG HWP Falcons.

How do I know ?? I just do......

Ford have imo brought out some less than stellar cars with the "GT" badge.
The S/C GT has lifted the "brand" back to true GT staus.
Hope the final one is even more worthy or I'd be inclined to get another F6.
Don't believe there has been any sub par F6's.
FGF6 owned the stall prior to the S/C GT.

Yep, everyone grab an FPV with the aspiration of making a motza when they sell it because they've been discontinued.

But in reality they'll all get desperate because they bought something they couldn't afford because they were dreamin' of crystal, Maybach's, diamonds on your time piece, jet planes, islands, tiger on a gold leash.

Prices will drop like a lead balloon and I'll get a nice little daily cruiser.

I thought all that was confirmed was that there would be no FH FPV and that there will be an FH XR8. To me, that doesn't mean that there won't be a FH GT, only that it may be produced under the Ford banner as opposed to FPV.

I should clarify that the Brembos were not a specific requirement, however a significant upgrade the the inadequate brakes was, and the rears went also ventilated on the BF 328mm, and solid (non-ventilated) 303mm on the FG....presumably to save a few cents.

I agree, this isn't a quick buck thing at all (we all saw it with 40th and Cobra) I think people have learnt how that panned out.

This is more the end of an era for an iconic vehicle we first saw in 1967 in the XR GT.

Ford are giving you the opportunity to buy your own GT before the doors are shut. For good.

This is why I started the thread, so you don't miss out if you wanted a brand new FPV in the last year of production.

So stop the negativity and celebrate the end of Australia's most well known muscle car.

Good on you Barra! At the end of the day, production is coming to an end so if you want one, get one. If its not up to your expectations, buy something else....simple.
I bought one because I wanted to own a new GT, yes it was a bit pricey, yes it has a couple of shortfalls BUT it has a bucket load of good stuff that makes me happy when I press the big red button.

Remember the GT (and the mighty F6) will live on in many forms for many years to come!

Happy driving over Xmas everybody!

Think you'll find that in the OP, he said FPV. The discussion went the direction of GT.

All the Coyote supercharged engine proved is, that once and for all it was never about the power & acceleration figures between the Holden Ford rivarly, Ford could have built a 10 second car with 450kw and HSV still would have outsold FPV/Ford, it's always been a popularity contest, I still have to drum this into peoples heads because people still do not get this. 2 Friends of mine that bought brand new HSV's last year never even considered a FPV despite the offerings, in fact they never even took one for a test drive.

It's pretty amusing though, considering the XR8 next year will be reborn with the same spec engine as the FG GT, could you imagine being a HSV owner forking out all that money on a brand new GTS, then pulling up to the lights next to a FH XR8 and then sitting side by side all the way to 100 and beyond
Even more embarrasing would be the lower spec variants of the VF in HSV's stable getting whopped by a factory XR8.

I couldn't care less that my GT will drop in value. If i choose to sell it, so be it. I didn't buy it in the hope to make money, i have investments for that.

I bought it because i wanted to buy a brand new GT. Not a second or third hand one. I hope to be able to keep it, and pass it on to my kids, so that they can enjoy it one day. If nothing else, i hope they have great memories in it, and i hope it holds some sentimental value to them one day.

I was banking on FPV shutting at the end of 2013, so i jumped the gun a bit. I might still grab the last of GT, but a November 2013 build is still pretty good going.

the RPO83 cars still pull huge coin and they were pretty much the same as what the FH XR8 will be especially in ex HWP form with brembo's if they make them
i'm still holding out for an ex cop FH XR6T or XR8, they will be up spec'd and cheap about 12 months after they are released,
in about 2 years my commodore will need replacing and an ex HWP falcon will fill its shoes nicely and all for about $20k
